5.0 out of 5 stars Fun cozy mystery
Strong women characters dominate this book and make the fun action packed adventure worth every page. The story is inventive and the relationships formed by the characters is heartwarming. Very worth the read.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Publishing Collision
The story begins slowly but picks up steam and the beginning content is fair. There are many notable passages that make up for the forementioned problems, but these isolated notable lines of verse actually become a distraction and seemed to stop the flow of the story. The novel is short and perhaps the intent was to slow the pace of the story and make it last longer...

The Phoenix is a terrific book, told by a charming lead character who goes through a remarkable transformation as she takes action to solve a mystery and reconcile her confused feelings for her late husband. There were many amusing moments -- all woven perfectly into a swift story. The action scenes were strikingly well-written. S. Alden Reilly is very talented, and exceptionally skilled in capturing the details that bring characters to life. This is the start of a great series.

I found the Phoenix to be an excellent read. The character development and plot development were superb. I read it from start to finish without putting it down. The interesting plot twists and turns will hold your attention to the very end. The characters are very interesting and entertaining. I am anixously awaiting the next book--hopefully, it will become a series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!, September 8, 2009
This review is from: The Phoenix (Paperback)
I couldn't put this book down until I had finished reading it!! I went to look for the rest of the books in this mystery series, and found there were no more. WHY? I hope someone gives this author a contract. The characters were loveable and competent, there were amusing moments, mayhem, mystery and romance. It was action packed, and I really wanted to read more about these characters. Must I resort to writing "fan fiction"?

The novel is short and perhaps the intent was to slow the pace of the story and make it last longer. Some novels can be too fast moving and you miss much and have to go back and read them again.

I read a great deal and I'm curious why this affects me and not the others who have posted here. Therefore I'll put the blame on me and say that I'm too accustomed to reading longer, faster paced novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-Written and Fun!, November 26, 2003

S. Alden Reilly has written a book that made me feel good. "The
Phoenix" is upbeat and refreshing. The author's humor is subtle and fast-paced.
"...Out of the corner of my eye I saw Layne fishing around in her duffle bag. God, I thought, she's going to shoot
him!
"She pulled out a small black object that looked like a cordless phone and hissed into it..."
I'll keep this book to read again and again.
