Master Prank Caller!,
By
This review is from: Phoney Phone Calls 1959-1972 (Audio CD)
Years before the Jerky Boys were harassing unwitting shop clerks, housewives and businessmen, Jerry Lewis perfected the art as evidenced by these recordings. My favorite cuts are "Camera Shop," "Vic Tanny Bodybuilders" and the most recent entry, "Bill Lynch." In this last recording a very laid-back Jerry torments a drunken caller before one of his Las Vegas shows. Not to be missed!

Lewis's Phone Pranks,
By Bennet Pomerantz "Bennet Pomerantz, AUDIOWORLD" (College Park, Maryland) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Phoney Phone Calls 1959-1972 (Audio CD)
Before The Jerky Boys..Before Punked..and long befor Bart Simpson harrassed Moe..there was Jerry Lewis making prank callsBefore answering machines were and hi-tech audio equipment was in vogue, Lewis had been the early audiophile. He recorded many of his performqnce and interviews on magnetic tape. In the late 1950. Lewis and the audio techical people from Paramount studios (where Jerry was under contract) had developed a system to tape phone calls. This was like giving a kid a key to the candy store...and this CD is full of his audio candy for all of us to enjoy Lewis made phoney calls to real people. His creative mind slipped up many in this phoney phone pranks. Its funny because, like Candid Camera, the people Lewis pranked were real. The joker in Jerry seemed to have fun without hurting anyone. Many of these people did not know Lewis's calls were a joke...which makes the joke funnier Some people may find these phone stunts child-ish, but this was Lewis's Candid Camera for the ear. I find these recoeding an enjoyable diversion. To hear the master comic's creative mind work is an amazing treat Some may find this humor dated..well it is. Lewis did these calls between 1959-1972..and they still are fun to listen to. There is no foul language and the comedy is listening to Jerry the joker have fun. One of my favorite pieces on this CD is Mr Siegel. Lewis tries to set up a party on friday (the Jewish Sabbath) ..and then later Saturday night at this Chicago Kosher restaurant. And if someone calls you and says "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?" (a phone joke played on those in 7-11 type stores). You can reply, "Nah, I let him out long ago!" and laugh at the pranker. Lewis's comedy has never been sharper. I only wish there was a second volume of these calls...I would buy it in a minute! Bennet Pomerantz AUDIOWORLD
