Not the best, but not the worst, July 23, 2006
This review is from: Phonics Poetry: Teaching Word Families (Paperback)
If you are looking for poems that contain more than three words from a word family then this is not the book for you. Most of the poems only contain two or three words from the word family being focused on. The author gives many additional activities for working with word families, but I purchased this hoping for poems with many words from a word family to focus on with my first graders. Although, overall it is a well organized book.

Phonics Poetry, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Phonics Poetry: Teaching Word Families (Paperback)
This book provides teachers with selections that will support fluency instruction as well as a beginning for the word study that is part of a balanced literacy program. Children enjoy the fun poems and the rhyming provides support for the struggling reader. Helping to develop comprehension is also part of this book. Children use words from the poems to complete sentences. Children use context clues to help complete the sentences.
Teachers looking for pieces that provide fluency practice for students in a easy to use format will enjoy this book.
It would have been helpful for this book to be in an 8 x 11 format to allow teachers to easily copy the pages.

I have found this book to be an excellent teaching resource for young readers. Several teachers that I have spoken to about the book echo my sentiment.
