Following on from the excellent “Big Moon Ritual” & “Magic Door” album, Robinson continues his fascinating musical odyssey, although not as cosmic as his two predecessors, but more of an earthy & roots style to most of the record. It’s one of the records, that on repeat listens seem to reveal something new every time.
I think because this is a solo record, Robinson appears to be more relaxed & experimental, perhaps his record company doesn’t expect it the shift many units compare to a new Black Crowes album, so don’t put as much pressure on his shoulders (just a theory).
I can’t find any info suggesting that there will be a second album release in 2014; we will just have to see.
So yet another highly original record to add to Robinson already bulging solo canon, it’s just a shame there’s no new work with the rest of the Crowes.

This album is awesome....but don't get the vinyl version until they fix all the crackle and pops and ticks!

Stick with the CD for now.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood continues to carry the Grateful Dead torch more than any other band making records today. And they do it without sounding like a cover band. The new album contains the rockers as well as the country flavored tunes with a healthy dose of the psychedelic thrown in for good measure that fans have come to expect from the band. Any fan of the Dead or jam music should pick this up asap.

I have not been able to stop listing to this album. If you are a fan of CRB you will not be disappointed. Even more excited to catch them live this summer!

I am a huge CR fan.. have all the New Earth Mud stuff and new shows as well. I love this new release, it is so familiar, like a Freaky mixture of JGB, GDead w/ Pigpen, Floyd and super cosmic funky southern shuffle. What a great follow up to the most recent efforts. Neal Casal has really earned my respect with his playing and songwriting.
Instant classics - "Jump the Turnstiles", "Meanwhile in the Gods", "Badlands" and "SLOW BURN." Just saw them live and it kicked ass (they played Vibration, Ride and Bertha)! OK, this 5 star review is for the CD/download - the vinyl pressing is awful and so disappointing. The packaging is so cool, I am going to hang onto the vinyl anyways. Glad I used the d/l code.

CRB's first 2 albums were created in a live in the studio manner. On Phosphorescent Harvest, the band used their year apart to work in the studio and create a true studio album. PH is a mixture of songs honed on the last tour (Jump the Turnstyle, Badlands Here We Come, Meanwhile in the Gods) brand new songs like the uptempo Shore Power and even a retooled Black Crowes buried gem Tornado.

It is easy for some to just put the Grateful Dead label on this band due to GD influence on their live shows. However this album evokes memories of Gram Parsons, Stephen Stills and many others while simultaneously defining their own unique sound. I will be listening to this album a lot this summer.

Buy the CD until they fix the production problem. The 10 tracks here plus the bonus Humboldt windchimes evoke some classic Allman Bros. and Dead vibes particularly Chris's raggedly pure vocals and Neal's at times Jerryesque guitar. After a few listens certain songs are really growing on me like the opening track Shore Power, Clear Skies, & Beggar's Moon, a few of the keyboard parts sound a little spacey/goofy but I am finding that they fit in better than at first listen. Can't wait to catch these guys live this summer not quite as good as Magic Door and less of a jam album than the first it is still first class Rock & Roll.

This album is fantastic. The band creates lush and vibrant soundscapes encompassing a wide range of musical styles - and Chris Robinson's songwriting skills and singing voice are aging like fine wine - it gets better and better with time.
