Unimpressed with this kit,

Where should I start. OK. First thing first, I ordered this product 3 weeks before Christmas, when the product arrived, I heard something rattled as the FedEx person handed over to me. I though it was a loose piece or something, turned out - one of light bulbs was shattered. Amazon would not just shipped me a replacement light bulb but rather I had to ship the entire package back to them. Got a replacement a week later, this time directly from Amazon, guess what? After hooking everthing up and ready for some photo shoots - you guessed it, one of the light bulbs didn't work. Arrrggg!!! I sent an email out to Amazon explaining that I don't want to return the entire dang thing back - just wanted a replacement light bulb. Never heard back from Amazon to this date. I went to a local Camera Exchange here in Houston and got some equivalent light bulbs. As for the kit, Adobe element 7 with 30 day trail, a training dvd, and a background dvd with limited goofy background (10 - 15 I believe). I am using Element 8 and LightRoom 2.4 in trying to make the cut-out image lighting to match the background lighting - so far most of my photos are too noticeable- In other words, the cut-out photos looked fake as compared to most of the background images that I used. If you want to try this out, you need to know how to use LightRoom or Photoshop to get the light to match, otherwise you photos will look very washed out from the softboxes. Hope this help.Ro

I received my order in the time stated and in good condition. The instructional DVD is very useful. All items are easy to set up and use. I had purchased a separate backdrop stand. The instructional DVD shows them simply using hooks to pull it out a little tight to remove any/all wrinkles and hold it onto a wall. I guess that's why the kit doesn't come with a backdrop stand since the stand would not act to pull the green screen out tight with no wrinkles. The bulbs are rated at like 3200K so they are not daylight balanced (which I think is 5200K???). This kit is good for what it does but it is not for a pro photo shoot...just good simple green screen fun.

Purchased these as I wanted some fairly decent softboxes and extra light stands, this kit has it all. However make sure you purchase the adapter kit (photo basics 413 4 bulb adapter) and, switch over to CFL lights, the original incandescent bulds are bright and powerful but are also very hot. After buying two Photo basics 413 4 bulb adapters and a set of daylight balanced CFL's wow what a difference, these run so much cooler in temperature. and the color from the daylight balanced CFLs is much nicer two, not to mention the energy savings. Drawback is there are no provisions to use the soft boxes with any of the manufactured speedlites from Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc. also there are no way of gelling these to give other lighting effects. positive is the constant on, this has been invaluable with seeing how the light reflects with your subject. Negative no way of controlling light intensity unless you remove diffuser panel and unscrew one or two bulbs to drop the light ratio. The light holder does have a hole so an umbrella can be used, this requires removing the bulbs, collapsing the softbox (the ring clip is tricky to say the least) and the it requires removing the soft box fabric material and then gaining access to 4 screws and removing the base ring. re insert the bulbs and slide umbrella into hole, however there is no screw to pinch down on the umbrella shaft. I have not used the green screen fabric.
