Book Description

Discover the things around you through the eye of your camera

Photo Idea Index: Things is a photography book unlike any other. Rather than focusing on the "how to" aspects of digital photography, author Jim Krause focuses on the "what if" aspects. You'll learn how to use your camera to explore the world around you from different perspectives and how to capture awe-inspiring digital images. For inspiration, you'll find a vast assortment of photos of household objects, plants, animals, machines, architectural details, treasure and trash. Krause shares his shooting techniques—both on-site and post-shooting digital treatments—so you can train your eyes to look for situations that will allow you to capture shots and create remarkable compositions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loads of Ideas July 6, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This little book is chock full of neat ideas. I'm always on the lookout for more things to take pictures of and this book gets me going. I appreciate the fact that the pictures aren't all technically "perfect" which gives me inspiration because I realize that I don't need expensive equipment and lighting to produce interesting photographs of everyday things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jim Krause is a GENIUS! February 8, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have every book written by this guy. One of his books, Design Ideas Index, was required reading for a graphic design course and I read it cover to cover in the first week because not only is the content good but it is displayed in an amazingly lighthearted and no-nonsence kind of way. These books (things, people, and places) in addition to the Photo Idea Index are more of the same great writing that made me so happy last term! Great job and a must for just starting out and for the experienced to switch it up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration found May 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book will present you a plenty of picture and very little explanation about how they was achieved. The idea is not to teach you how to shoot good photography but instead it will show you how mundane things like a light bulb can lead to very powerful images if you just try, dress the scene and use your imagination.

I have the paper and kindle versions... Kindle version is very useful for use in the smartphone while on the road. It is always with you.
