Editorial Reviews

Review

... a breath of fresh air ... worth its weight in gold as a learning vehicle and ready reference. Curl's book is unique right from the start in that there's not a single bit of color. He's dead serious in believing that black-and-white is a good learning tool because "viewing the world in monochrome will teach you to see." -- Kalamazoo Gazette, October 10, 1991

When we're learning something, we learn the first 80 percent pretty quickly; the closer we get to perfection, the tougher it gets. That last 20 percent makes the artist. [photo/IMAGING] will get you the 80 percent ... and it even takes a stab at the remaining twenty. By talking about the reasons for a photograph, and why a photograph works, and the effectiveness of a particular style and approach, as well as the purely technical, scientific and physical aspects of photography, David Curl presents a nicely balanced view of the craft and the art. ... a book that's been a source of information and inspiration to us over the years -- Outdoor and Travel Photography, Winter 1992

From the Publisher

photo/IMAGING (formerly Photocommunication) has always been a different kind of book. It covers needed concepts, but from a refreshingly different, non-intimidating point of view. It encourages creativity and stimulates individualized learning.

5.0 out of 5 stars An art teacher's point of view, October 23, 2001

This review is from: Photo/Imaging: How to Communicate With Camera and Computer (Paperback)
No other text I have used presents such a broad range of concepts and techniques with such a minimum of technical jargon. Clearly written and well-illustrated with student work, students feel like "I can do this!" They are also inspired by the many appropriate quotes.
