Book Description

October 1, 2002
Many traditional photographic techniques, such as hand colouring and toning, are enjoying a creative revival - and this interest continues to grow. In fact, many photo-manipulation techniques have fine art as well as commercial applications and are often used in photojournalism and today's print advertisements. Perfect for all levels, from beginner to veteran artist, "PhotoPainting" demonstrates, step by step, how to create an array of photopainting techniques. This guide shows artists, photographers and crafters how to take hand colouring photographs to the next level, where the original photograph is not just being highlighted or enhanced but totally transformed into something closer to a painting than a photo. These lessons progress from very easy to more advanced techniques and describe how to bring a dynamic, fresh approach to just about any type of photo. Readers should discover dozens of tips for finding the right materials, including starting with a strong black-and-white photo, choosing paper composition, selecting colours and subjects, and much more. In addition a magnificent, full-colour gallery displays these amazing photopainting techniques in action. Illustrated throughout and packed with useful tips and practical advice, this guide to a surprisingly easy art is sure to bring out the dormant artist in anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars different approach, November 25, 2003
This review is from: PhotoPainting: The Art of Painting on Photographs (Paperback)
I like this book and found the photopainting just another approach to the handcoloring of photos. The author definately got some interesting results and wonderful photos using this technique. I am just at the beginning of my handcoloring adventure but enjoyed this book for the artistic value and having yet another avenue to explore in handcoloring.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great photo book, January 5, 2010

This review is from: PhotoPainting: The Art of Painting on Photographs (Paperback)
This book shows what can be done with photo painting. It has supply lists and describes what is done. What I like about this book is the artwork. It takes photo painting beyond the ordinary. The painted photos in this book look like paintings. This book, although not the best for just starting out photo painting, would be a great addition to a more basic photo painting book. I know I will spend a lot of time looking through this book.
