3.0 out of 5 stars Photo Guide to Cape Cod
Moderately helpful on recent trip to the cape. Many suggestions too general or repetitive.Ideas on where to stay eat so vague as to be useless. Good suggestions on where to park, how to get to sites. Found a few places I didn't know about from prior trips.

I'm a fine art photographer who has lived on Cape Cod for just over two years. I found this book extremely helpful. With less time spent on scouting around for the best vantage points, I have more time to actually get great shots during the sweet lighting times just before and after sunrises and sunsets. I bought this book for suggestions on places further away from my home town, but I'm also discovering new, tucked away spots within a 15-20 minute drive. I enjoyed Chris Linder's photos, too, and his anecdotes on other not-to-miss places -- I couldn't agree more about taking a few minutes for a stop at Coffee Obsession while in Woods Hole! I'd recommend this book to photographers of any skill level who have limited time to fine and capture great images.

I thought this book was great. It tells where all the good photographic spots are. Thanks to this book I was up and running all over Cape Cod during my vacation. The only thing that would have been an improvement would be if the author recorded the camera settings next to each photo. Great buy!

While I was on Cape Cod last month, I seized the opportunity to photograph a bit of the area I've heard so much about. I only had a weekend, so I divided it between Martha's Vineyard one day and Provincetown the next, as any good tourist to the area would. I felt mildly successful in my efforts, but realize now how much better I could have spent my time. I am kicking myself for not reading it before the trip. It directly addresses all of the aspects you don't have time to experiment with yourself. I might want to get a sunset-over-water shot, but where is the best foreground interest? Which sand dunes will stay lit until the end? It would take years of trial and error to get that kind of knowledge, which is exactly what the author has put together in this book. Highly recommended if you're interested in getting the most out of your time on the cape.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for photographing Cape Cod, January 2, 2010
This review is from: The Photographer's Guide to Cape Cod & the Islands: Where to Find the Perfect Shots and How to Take Them (Paperback)
I have now visited Cape Cod three times for the purpose of photographing, and I couldn't have done it without this fabulous book. It's the most marked-up and well-thumbed book I own. Chris not only provides good directions for reaching each site, he also gives invaluable tips for the best times of day to shoot each place, what kind of gear to use, and which seasons are most favorable to visit specific areas--and how much it's going to cost you to park at some sites during the summer! He suggests how to plan your day and gives some ideas, as well, for nonphotographic activities, which is useful for those bright, sunny days when a few hours of harsh midday light can make producing good images a real challenge. If you're headed to Cape Cod with your camera, make sure this book is in your bag. You won't regret it.

We visited Cape Cod for 4 days in April so did not have a lot of time for poking around looking for photogenic scenery. This book was a great asset setting out in an orderly manner the best places to photograph, good descriptions of how to get there and even maps at the front of the book with numbered references to all the locations. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to photograph the Cape or even as a guide to the most attractive scenery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide to Photography on Cape Cod, January 17, 2008
This review is from: The Photographer's Guide to Cape Cod & the Islands: Where to Find the Perfect Shots and How to Take Them (Paperback)
As a photographer living on Cape Cod, this guide has already, in my first month of owning it, sent me to locations on Cape Cod that I had not thought of for photographs. The guide provides excellent tips for taking pictures at each site, e.g., time of year and day, best position to take the shot. This is a guide for both amateur and professional photographers who either live on the Cape or are visiting. It is well worth the cost!

It's a nice book, and the pictures are very good, as well as the suggestions of where to take good photographs, and some good tips to get those good photographs. But ultimately, I would have hoped for more photographer tips, and perhaps even a caption on each photo saying what the exposure was, what lens he used, etc., to help an amateur see better how to take good photographs on the Cape. It is a guide to the Cape suggesting where to take good pictures ... I just wish it had way more HOW to take good pictures.
