Great book to start your photo selling business.,

I have purchased Photographers Market for several years and they are about the best book around for giving you places to sell (the use of) your photos. Not only magazines but business periodicals and even galleries are listed. Also some brief info on how to go about contacting these places. Probably now one of the most important is how they want images sent. Some want only digital, others will take slides but no prints, others will want only medium or large format. A must have.

Helpful Marketing Tool,
This review is from: 2008 Photographer's Market (Paperback)
This book is a helpful marketing tool for photographers (part or full-time). It lists lots of potential marketing possibilities that I wouldn't know about otherwise. The information is updated as much as possible, but as with anything in publishing and business its always a moving target. Suggestion for future editions: include a CD that has the contact information of the various business, with their websites and tagged with keywords. That would make an already very useful tool awesome.

I have found this book to be a wealth of information. It is of a very diverse nature for those looking to do work or just be a freelance photographer. I have only begun to read this comprehensive and detailed book. It covers just about everything, i.e. financials, needs, specs, making contact & terms, tips, etc. I was referred to this directory by a friend who has been a long time photographer. I would recommend this book to everyone.

A long way to success,

Yes it has a LOT of listings, but the web has even more - an endless supply of sources where images can be submitted and put up for sale.
If you want to take the long way to begin selling, get this book and follow its advice to cold call agencies and send porfolios. But, if you want the shortcut, just put your work out there on the web. You will get a lot more exposure on online stock photo agencies like shutterpoint and such. Get the buyers to come to you instead of trying to push your work to them. The book is a useful resource for serious beginning photographers, but there are more effective ways to start your photo business and get returns on your photos right away.

Life is better when you have a direction to go in,

I got this book for my daughter who is a natural when it comes to photography. It is a hobby she just seems to have an "eye" for. It came to my address and I took a look at the book just to make sure it was what i thought it was and was 'right' for her. It got ME excited, and I havent taken pictures in years though my eyes and mind never stop thinking about what a great picture some of the things I see around me might make. I cannot claim whether or not this book is ALL inclusive, but it was very clear that it was pretty darn close enough. I think any one can have a great talent, but like a person dropped in the middle of a large lake....it is so much better when you have a direction to go in. Why swim in circles? Take the pictures you want but know at the same time what you might DO with them and where you might sell them. You'll be able to enjoy a hobby fully and at the same time possibly make or supplement a lifestyle or living.
good luck to all the photographers out there mm

If you can't make back your $20 just from the tips alone in this book, then you need to find another business to go into. Even the time alone that it would save you doing the research yourself makes this book worth it. One of the cheapest business investments you can make.

It's a great book that you can get tons of information. However I am geared more toward fashion and the listings in that area are narrow. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to break in the field for the valuable information that is presented in it. For the other listings I believe the book does a marvelous job. Really really great information on submitting your work. Buy it!
