Book Description

May 15, 1966 0136647553 978-0136647553 First edition, Fourth printing
From the rear cover: Photographers on Photography is the first critical source book to be published in the field of photography. Of the thirty-nine essays by leading photographers covering the period of 1886 to the present, many have been relatively inaccessible. The articles have been selected to best represent each photographer's individual philosophy and contribution to the development of contemporary photographic expression. The book contains biographical notes and a selected bibliography on teach of the twenty-three photographers represented.

While virtually all of the anthologies available today are driven by a canonical set of postmodern claims, Lyons' Photographers on Photography is entirely free of any vulgar orthodoxies about indexes, reproducibility, traces, punctums, or the antiaesthetic.
