A MUST-HAVE BOOK, ONE OF KENNY'S BEST, November 3, 2001
The outstanding production on this book and several hundred gorgeousillustrations are matched by interesting, informative, and highly readable text. The author's focus on mid-nineteenth century design styles includes not only a wide range of daguerreotype cases, but their component parts as well (pads, mats, and preservers). The book is about case art, but it also includes the case makers and photographers, the design styles of the time, and a historical perspective on life in America from 1840-1870. This unique approach to case art is a departure from the norm and makes Kenny's book an important reference text for photographica, Americana, and Victoriana collectors along with artists, historians, and designers.
