Fun But Confusing, September 24, 2008
This review is from: Photographica: The Fascination With Classic Cameras (A Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
Nice visual presentation of individual cameras with a generally broad universe of coverage. But the context of each camera within photographica is not expained; instead, each entry includes a basic technical description. Editorials decisions -- why the chosen cameras were chosen and why others were rejected -- are not explained. Finally, other than the fact of the individual listings appearing within broad categories within the book (e.g., Small Viewfinder Cameras") there is no organization whatsoever, not even alphabetically. Puzzling!
This book appears to be published for little more than simple browsing, which I actually do enjoy it for. Open to a random page and just breeze around for a model that intrigues you. Read the small technical description and then experience a tinge of disappointment as you crave more information.
