5.0 out of 5 stars More than just the locations, June 11, 2009

This book features plenty of wonderful images and gives you all of the great places to visit in Oregon. I love how the author gives you more than just the location, giving the best times to visit and the suggested lenses to have. There's a great chart as well that quickly breaks down the locations and the photographic value, personal visitation value as well as the difficulty in reaching the different sites. If you want to shoot landscapes in Oregon, this is your guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars All The Best Photo Locations In Oregon, May 13, 2009
By

This review is from: Photographing Oregon (Phototripsusa) (Paperback)
Oregon is a beautiful state and outdoor photography opportunities are plentiful. However, without a lot of national parks and other high profile areas, finding the best locations can take years. The author clearly spent years finding all the places in the book and compiling careful notes and amazing images. There is no other guide to photographing Oregon as helpful and comprehensive as this one. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book made my trip, September 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Photographing Oregon (Phototripsusa) (Paperback)
I'm a serious amateur photographer and bought this book before heading off on my two-week Oregon driving vacation with my wife. We used it to help plan our trip to the Sisters area, the Columbia Gorge and the Oregon coast. It was super helpful. The Ratings pages at the back are brilliant--with limited time, we knew we couldn't see everything, and that section really helped us plan the trip and decide which spots would be more worthwhile to visit than others, and not just for photography.

We even found the guide more helpful than the other travel guides we brought (like Frommer's Oregon) in terms of providing specific directions for how to get to the locations, and, of course, for how to get the best shots once we got there. We followed the author's advice and bought the Benchmark Maps Oregon Road & Recreation Atlas and the Benchmark Oregon Recreation Map, too, which both proved really handy.

I got many great shots that I wouldn't have gotten without this book's advice on the most photogenic natural locations, the best time of day to shoot, what lenses to bring along on which hikes, suggestions on different compositions, advantages and disadvantages of specific vantage points, and more. This book is really specific! You can use it to plan a very efficient shooting itinerary to maximize your chances of being in the right place at the right time. The scouting and experience he condenses into this book saved me from having to figure out all these things by trial and error over multiple trips, which just isn't possible for someone making a single, first-time trip to an area.

We had a great vacation and the super photos I got are largely thanks to this book.

And by the way, Oregon is cleaner, less crowded, and filled with friendlier people than California. I'm just sayin'.
