Excellently meets the objective,

This review is from: Photographing on Safari: A Field Guide to Wildlife Photography in East Africa (Paperback)
I am about to leave for Africa, so I needed some preparation. McDonald's book exactly served my needs. It is helpful, with both technical advice and inspiring photographs. He makes you believe that you will be successful. I later found referrals to this book in the nature photography usenet group; so it seems that others find the book helpful as well. Small enough to take along. Packing lists too.

This review is from: Photographing on Safari: A Field Guide to Wildlife Photography in East Africa (Paperback)
When this book was written it was geared toward the film photographer and I believe he has written a new book with the emphasis on digital photography. That being said this is still a great resource book about photographing animals while on safari in East Africa. The principles of acheiving a great photograph remain the same no matter the media. Joe McDonald has made numerous trips to East Africa and in my opinion is the authority on how you can acheive better photos on your trip. This book provides tips on chosing the type of safari that is right for YOU, what animals you might encounter, suggested equipment and clothing. Since this is a field guide it's concise.
