Editorial Reviews

Even as Mest reaches out on its fourth album, Photographs, to an ever-larger group of fans with an eclectic style that fearlessly embraces hip-hop drum kits, string arrangements and even piano the band remains a punk favorite. Produced by Goldfinger frontman John Feldmann (The Used, Mest's three earlier Maverick discs), Photographs also expands the group's lyrical palette by delving into such heavy topics as life and death, suicide and innocence lost among its chorddriven rock, hooky melodies and pogoinducing beats. With Photographs and performing on this summer's Warped Tour main stage (where it also played in 2003) Mest has become a developing story. Warner. 2005.

The last song on the album, Last Kiss, is my mind is a great way to end the album.

ok, maybe that title makes me sound old, but im only 21. Anyways, this album is a lot more mature, and this album shows it. I personally liked their older stuff better, but these tracks are just as catchy as their old stuff if you leave it in your player enough :) And damn, there's even a DVD included. good deal!

I have liked Mest since i got there self titled release. I think they are a great band that has gone through a lot. Many of their songs on their previous albums were about partying and girls, but this album really seems to be deep and moving. The lyrics are thought provoking, and I can tell they put their heart, soul, sweat, and blood into this album...it paid off! I predict that Photographs, will make Mest a worldwide sensation, I actually saw a commercial for this album. I have NEVER before that seen a Mest anything on tv. They are great people and they deserve all the success they are sure to get from this album.

I have been listening to Mest since the year 2000, I own every other MEST cd to date and have not been disapointed by one yet.

The new album PHOTOGRAPHS is a different swing for MEST from there previous albums. The new release dives into much deeper issues and sounds like it is comming straight from the heart.

The entire album is breath taking, every single song different but great in its own sense, catchy guitar riffs, hard singing, soft singing and harmonys like no others. This album is one that stands out and will be remembered for a long time to come. Absolutely amazing.

When I think of Mest, I think of fun pop/punk with a little reggae influence. This sums up their first three major label releases (all of which were phemonenal albums). This album is emo. Bad emo. Their style has changed so much in one album that it's mindblowing. You can tell just by looking at some of the song titles ("Kiss Me, Kill Me", "As His Black Heart Dies (My Mistake)", "Graveyard", "Nightmare", etc.) that this is a darker album. The problem is that darker doesn't necessarily mean more mature. In fact, with this album Mest is regressing.

The lyrics are littered with words like "blood", "dark" and a lot of them allude to suicide. The lyrics aren't good, nor are they original. In fact, it seems as though Tony and Jeremiah went through a bout of a writer's block, so instead of writing lyrics they broke into the house of some random angsty 14-year-old who hates his parents and stole the kid's crappy poetry.

This album also includes Mest's worst song of all-time: "Last Kiss". The lyrics are so childish and angsty that it's nothing short of utter rediculousness. Here's a little sample: "Stare at you as you slit my wrist, and as we share our last kiss, hold me as we die". These are lyrics I might be able to appreciate if I was 14-years-old. As I'm 21, I see how silly and overly dramatic they are. And since Tony, who wrote the song, is quite a few years older than I am, he has no excuse. This is just terrible.

There are only three songs on this album that I like. None of the three hold a candle to any song off Mest's last three albums, but here goes: "Take Me Away (Cried Out To Heaven)", "Photographs" and "This Time". All three are decent, and almost reminiscent of Mest's previous sound.

After putting out this album, I'm glad Mest broke up.

For those who have been following Mest throughout other albums, you will not be disappointed with the sound that has evolved into on this album. While still keeping their trademark sound, they brought in a few new elements, putting together their best CD yet.

For those who are new to Mest, this is a great place to start. I myself have recommended to people who never of them before, or weren't into them at all into giving this album a listen since I got it and not one hasn't gone to buy it for themselves.

The entire album has a little bit of something for anybody. It's an especially good album to listen to while getting over a bad break up (songs like `Photographs, Cursed, As His Black Heart Dies...) or if you happen to be miserably in love with someone (See tracks: Nightmare, Last Kiss, Dying for You)
