"Kobré's text got me off the ground. No kidding. Since then, I have bought every edition and handed the last copy off to somebody who could really use it."

Well organized, with good insight from people working in the field, and wonderful illustrations. One testimonial from my students--there are very few used copies of this book in our campus bookstore from year to year."
-Dave Burman, Hawkeye Community College, Waterloo, Iowa

"This is a comprehensive textbook brimming with excellent examples of photojournalism. This book is for any photojournalism student or working pro who wants insight inot how the best in the business go about turning out great photographs."

5.0 out of 5 stars Photojournalist Jewel!!!!, October 10, 2008
I have been studying photojournalism for about two years now and I have never seen a book near the quality and content of this book. If you are just looking to get into the field or have been in the field for years, get this book. It opens your mind as to what photojournalism, the content, what to look for, where to look, and so much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT just for aspiring professionls, October 23, 2008
By AftonE (Texas) - See all my reviews
I have Professor Kobre's Lightscoop and I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. My pictures really do look professional now!

Anyway, I decided to get Professor Kobre's book even though there's no way I'm ever going to be a professional photojournalist. Yes, it's aimed at people who want to be professionals. BUT this book is just loaded with information, including strategies on taking candid pictures... which I do all the time (or try to) with my family and friends. Plus, the pictures in this book are amazing even if you don't read it. But the text is easy to read, too! Professor Kobre dissects and explains technical information so that even people like me can understand.

Still don't want to be a real photojournalist but that doesn't mean I can't learn from professionals! Great book great value for the price!

4.0 out of 5 stars Updates worth it?, August 27, 2009
The updated version of this book is worth the price if you do not have the previous version. Not worth the price otherwise. The DVD has added a Sports Illustrated section but the rest is repeats of prior version. The addition of video and sound capture was needed but I found it didn't apply to most jobs in the business. Most newspapers adding video and sound to the job description are not providing the equipment he suggests you need. Some of the sections have new pictures and some new paragraphs but for the most part it's just a rehash of the old edition.
