Book Description

October 1997
Explore the art of photomontage using Stephen Golding's methods of creating perspective, ordering elements with an aesthetic purpose, and adding distinction to your work. Whether the main tools in your studio are a craft knife or a personal computer, this volume, which explores digital and mechanical methods, will show you the way. A portfolio of outstanding examples of montage from today's leading artists will inspire your own creative ideas.

Anyone interested in a medium that will increase his or her ability to express themselves will find something useful in this book. Readers are guided through step-by-step processes for creating photomontage by hand or computer. At the same time, they are encouraged to explore and combine methods to communicate their ideas.

Golding on traditional photomontage: "The question in the digital age is not whether mechanical methods are necessary, but if they are desirable."

Demonstrations of mechanical methods: Creating mock-ups, Using airbrushes, Hand-coloring techniques

Golding on the digital era: "To understand the creative significance of digital imaging, think of it in these terms: Imagine if you had always taken pictures using a simple box camera and then switched to a 35mm single-lens reflex."

Demonstrations of digital methods: Selecting elements, Sharpening images, Creating Shadows
