Book Description

November 2005 0943396859 978-0943396859 Pap/Dvdr
I remember my first one-day class on how to use Photoshop in 1997. During the long drive home I was excited by the possibilities of what I had seen a Photoshop Master accomplish. However, as I began work on my own images I had great difficulty implementing what I had learned. Even though I had diligentlyscribbled notes during the entire class, when faced with the power and complexity of the program, I hardly knew where to begin. Photoshop was speaking a language, indeed it was a language one that I had not yet learned. Over the years that followed I gradually learned Photoshop's language. In hindsight, what I really needed was a primer that outlined, step by step, exactly how to optimize my images and why I needed to do it in a particular way a book that cut no corners or assumed that, as a beginner, I did not need to understand the big picture, complex techniques or why things worked. I have written Photoshop Astronomy to do just that. It is packed with tutorial examples that are specific to astronomical imaging. Each Photoshop step is explained in great detail. A beginner will see results immediately. But make no mistake; this is not a Photoshop for Dummies. I have not avoided complex material or procedures. Quite to the contrary, I have included difficult, extended image-processing tasks along with the simpler ones. Once you see how even the difficult procedures are worked with my step-by-step examples, their difficulty vanishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!!, January 18, 2009

Scott Ireland has done an excellent job in putting together this interactive guide to the application of Photoshop for the astrophotgrapher. He provides numerous techniques in a very understandable way, although some understanding of Photoshop beforehand is highly recommended. The photographs that he discusses in the book are also provided on a DVD so that you can not only read about the processing but you can carry it out yourself on your computer. Of all the guides that I have purchased for the application of Photoshop (eight so far), this one is my bible for astrophotgraphy. We are really fortunate that Scott took the time to put his vast experience to print. He is a superb astrophotographer and over the years I have really enjoyed attending his lectures at the Winter Star Party. Thank you, Scott!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great source of detailed explanations and step-by-step, October 14, 2007

This review is from: Photoshop Astronomy (Paperback)
This book is thorough in its approach to educating you on the why's and how's of using PhotoShop for image processing. If you've always wondered how to best use PS to process your astronomical images, this book will give you the nitty-gritty details of how to do it, as well as why you should do it.

The text is split into logical chapters, so that if there are areas that you aren't interested in, you can easily skip them.

This is a GOOD book! It's not inexpensive -- but it's very comprehensive.
