Good General GUI Overview, October 30, 2006
This review is from: Photoshop CS2 for Beginners DVD (DVD-ROM)
This DVD is designed to introduce all new users of Photoshop CS2 to the basics of the application; No prior experience with PS CS2 (or any previous version) is required. The 150 minute long presentation covers the interface, general menus, pallet windows, and tools, interacting with the user by setting up editing tasks specifically designed for the object being demonstrated and letting the user follow along with the tasks in their own PS CS2 environment. Almost all of the pictures used in the demonstrations are provided to you on the second DVD.
Although the audio quality of the DVD is very good, the video is a little blurry, a small distraction when looking between your crisp environment and the demonstration video. The presentation is well organized and enjoyable, but there are times during the presented editing tasks that the presenter goes a little fast and the viewer may find they need to pause / rewind a bit to see which menu the presenter is on, re-listen to the instructions, etc.
By the end of the presentation I felt a little disappointed - not with the presentation, but with the amount of material covered. For the money, the viewer could have purchased a much more inclusive book on the subject and received the same overview, samples, demonstrations, etc., but all covered in the first couple of chapters. A book also leaves you with a future reference source that is much quicker and easier to location needed information than a video allows. This isn't a bad purchase, but it may be too limited and too expensive for most users intent on eventually mastering Photoshop CS2.
