Book Description

1596715022 978-1596715028 November 21, 2008
Photoshop CS4 for Photographers is an essential course for any digital photographer who wants to master the software's vast array of image enhancement techniques. Professional photographer and instructor Chris Orwig uses his own compelling images to demonstrate how the power of Photoshop can make photographers more passionate about their work. He covers many aspects of the application, such as working with RAW images, using curves and levels, making images snap, and enhancing bland photographs by converting them to black and white. Exercise files accompany this course.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for the professional, September 26, 2011

This review is from: Photoshop CS4 for Photographers (DVD-ROM)
Mr Orwigs rushes through the tutorials at break neck speed. While the techniques shown are certainly worthy, the informal tone of his voice and poor choice of images in the tutorials makes the videos presentation less professional. His choice of images and final products definitely would not inspire confidence to the buyer for producing images of quality shown in leading publications.

So if you feel that you will become a high end retoucher after watching this video, sadly that will not be the case. To really master the techniques these videos must be seen parallally with the sample images being worked on simultaneously with a open Photo Shop program. A typical project has about ten videos and hours of work with multitude of layers. At the end the final image is only marginally better than the original image, leaving the viewer to wonder whether the hours of effort was worth it.

After seeing the number of steps required and the hours required to produce one quality image as explained in the video tutorials.I felt the retouching effort is best left to a low paid retoucher sitting in India or some third world country.
