I used this book in conjuction with a class I was taking for Photoshop. There is a lot of great information and it really helped me to find what I was looking for. It is easy to find information using the index. The chapters are easy to follow. I learned a lot by going through each chapter and trying out my new skills. The instructions are clear and easy to understand, with lots of photos to help you see what they are talking about. I would recomend this book for anyone who wants to learn Photoshop CS5

Lots of information, but you have to jump around in the book to get what you need. The info is very sporadic, you might find part of what you need in Chapter one, and then have to go to Chapter seven to get the rest of the story.

This book is loaded with info and for that reason alone, I give it 5 stars.

Pros: I found some information in this book that I could not find in Classroom in a Book.

Cons: Does not come with a DVD, and would prefer that it did.

Though the book requires that you obtain more information about a subject by referring to another chapter, I did not find this annoying.

You could cut the size of this book in half just by taking out all of the times that the author refers you back and forth from one chapter to another. Also, it's clear that the author is a strong Photoshop user but not particularly knowledgeable about the image processing technology behind it. That is not a problem except when she tries to explain a concept that she obviously doesn't really understand. She should not try to explain color gamuts or compression at all because she does not seem to even know what they are. Another thing that really bothers me is that the book is very light on the details of a few key CS5 features. The puppet warp example is trite and there is a whopping ONE PAGE on HDR Pro. Obviously, lots of people like this book. But, for me, it's like someone who knows less than I do trying to explain things in a silly, flippant way that I find really annoying. I just returned this book.

After buying this book 5 months ago, I haven't gained any new knowledge in Photoshop. I didn't know much about the program and this book didn't help at all. The information is weird and confusing. One reviewer said the info is "sporadic" which nailed it. One has to search different chapters to try and get an answer. Terrible, terrible investment!! LOOK FOR A BETTER PHOTOSHOP BOOK.

I've never been last in my class, but this one is WAAY OVER MY HEAD. I should have suspected it it when the "For Dummies" book turned out to be more more than 1000 pages in length. The Chinese tech guy in our company just shook his head too. It must be me, because there's lot of people out there who seem to used us just it just fine. DUH!
