5.0 out of 5 stars The best Photoshop 7 book
Never mind the review below that it doesn't work perfectly with XP - it does. I've gone through the whole book and found only 2 places where the examples on the CD weren't exactly what was being explained, but that's such a small percentage it's not a problem. The fact is, this is the best hands-on, clearest explanation of how to actually use and live with Photoshop...

2.0 out of 5 stars A number of errors make this book frustrating
Although I enjoy the overall format of this book and am learning alot, I found the errors VERY frustrating. There were several times when I had to abandon a tutorial because there were crucial steps missing or errors which were difficult to figure out so I lost out on what was being taught and was forced to move on to the next lesson.

Later on, this was further...

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome source for everything you need to know., January 30, 2003

As a designer who needed to expand my capabilities, I found this to be the best book I've seen on Photoshop - by far.

I had considered plunking down a lot of cash to take a hands-on Photoshop seminar, but I'm glad I got this book instead. I saved a ton and learned more than I probably would have in a class.

The progressive tutorials are an amazingly easy way to quickly learn how all of the great Photoshop tools work. They are clear and easy to follow, and at the same time offer tons of practical information about how to use Photoshop in the real world. I especially appreciated how the illustrations move right along to help explain the steps in the tutorials. The writer gave me all the information I needed to create the projects and get a good sense of how Photoshop really works. And the tutorials focus on exactly the kind of tools I need to do my job. Jan Kabili really knows what she's talking about.

I'm not a total Photoshop novice, but I didn't realize how much there was to learn until I read this book. This is one of the most useful Photoshop books in my design library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Photoshop 7 Complete Course, October 27, 2003
This review is from: Photoshop 7 Complete Course for MAC Users (Paperback)
This is definitely the most enjoyable, complete, user friendly photoshop book out there. Even though it is designed for the beginner, it has enough detailed to keep an advanced user entertained. I've tried the Bible and the Books by Adobe, this book is far superior. It not only shows you the tools, but also how to use them to nest effect and more importantly, when to use them (and it full colour!). Even when you have finished the course, you'll end up using this book as a reference book. If you are going to buy one book to learn Photoshop...you can't go wrong with this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good intro to PS7, but poor quality control, January 23, 2003
By

This review is from: Photoshop 7 Complete Course for MAC Users (Paperback)
As someone who is new to Photoshop, I wanted a way to become acquainted with the basic functionality using a hands-on approach. This book accomplishes this in principle, using a tutorial approach stepping through the application of features and functions on images and documents provided on CD-ROM. Unfortunately, the tutorials have been poorly tested, if at all. Many steps and instructions in the book do not correspond with what is presented on screen. Sometimes steps are missing or misstated and must be inferred. In one extreme case, a starter file is provided to work on, but it is in fact an ending file with all steps already applied. This, while a separate and redundant ending file is supplied to demonstrate the final result. Most errors are less severe, but they nonetheless require time and effort taken from the lesson in order to recover. Depending upon the reader's skill and insight, recovery attempts may or may not be successful. The publisher should provide an errata list and corrected files.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Photoshop Tutorial, April 5, 2006
This review is from: Photoshop 7 Complete Course for MAC Users (Paperback)
I'm about 1/2 finished this book and it has given me a walk
through lots of PS7 features and their basic usage.
No, it's not a perfect book. But considering the hundreds
of steps, a few errors are to be expected. And the errors
can usually be fixed, if you take time to figure them out.
So far I've noted about one error per lesson/chapter.
Hence the 4/5 star rating.
The accompanying CD always has the beginning and ending file
that you should have made when you successfully completed the
previous lesson, so skipping a lesson is easy.
I have NO experience with Photoshop 7, and now feel confident
that I can begin using the software to further explore digital
photography post processing. And my hands don't get wet in the
darkroom, either!
The computer skills needed are basic, too. Load a CD, then Run
Photoshop, pick the file to Open for the lesson you want, then
GO!
If you want a step-by-step project-based tutorial for PS7, this
book is an very good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Superb!, December 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Photoshop 7 Complete Course for MAC Users (Paperback)
This is the best Photoshop training book I've found, and could possibly be the best Photoshop book, period. Somehow it manages to be both incredibly beautiful and unfailingly instructive. It's composed of a very concise, logical progression of lessons that are easy, yet sophisticated.

The author, who apparently really knows her stuff, takes you by the hand and shows you around Photoshop while you create a professional-quality brochure. You start with the basics and progress to professional-level techniques, with all of the files you need on the CD. The steps are peppered with asides and tips that provide more context to what you're actually doing. With no previous knowledge of Photoshop required, you're soon using sophisticated layering and compositing techniques, masks, text effects...well, you get the idea.

The whole thing is layed out in a very visual, easy-to-follow design in full color, and the images used throughout are awesome. If only more books were like this...!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, December 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Photoshop 7 Complete Course for MAC Users (Paperback)
Wow. This book is not only beautiful to look at, but is a joy to use. It's dense with well-thought-out lessons that show how to do just about anything in Photoshop. I love the central project -- a brochure for a film festival. I started with Session 1 and was hooked, even though I thought I already knew a bit about Photoshop."Complete Course" indeed!

To date I have over 4,000 pages of somewhat usefull Photoshop 7 MANUALS... its been horrible! I am just about done with the Complete Course and it has been AMAZING!

The Author is a Certified Adobe Expert and to say that she knows what she is talking about would be an understatement.

I felt like I was guided by the hand in this course. It was so addicting to see what was coming up next.

If you need to learn PhotoShop 7 fast...I highly recommend this incredible manual.

I even fixed up my site with the info. at [the website].

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent ---, February 24, 2005
This review is from: Photoshop 7 Complete Course for MAC Users (Paperback)
This was by far the best Photoshop book I have come across. This book tells you everything you want to know about the subject. I brought the Abobe photoshop "Classroom in a Book"(over have the stuff mentioned in the complete course is not even covered in here).......it pales in comparison to Photoshop 7 the complete course. I do not know what the others were complaining about. I had no problem with any of the exercises.

5.0 out of 5 stars I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH, GREAT BOOK!, June 2, 2003
By
"roxie@yahoo.com" (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Photoshop 7 Complete Course for MAC Users (Paperback)
I just ordered Photoshop 7 Complete Course a couple of weeks ago and I cannot say enough good things about it. I have already received more then my money's worth out of this great book. It is sometimes so hard to understand things when read in a book but the author has more then taken out all of the guesswork of the instruction. It is so thorough she systematically takes your hand and walks you through every part of the course. If you need to or want to learn Photoshop, you have found the book you have been looking for in this book. I cannot possibly see another thing that she could have included. Literally, I could go on and on touting this great book. The only thing that I have left to say is, buy it, you will not be sorry.
