I am a complete newbie to Adobe Photoshop and have never worked with any of this type of software. I have a nice Canon SLR but never invested in finishing software as I did not have the time to dabble in it. Over the last few years, we have taken great shots that if fixed would be fabulous. I received Photoshop for Christmas and I was eager to get started. I uploaded a few pictures, started clicking along and figured the guided edit should be a breeze. Boy was I wrong! I was quickly frustrated because I did not know where to start. I am the type of learner that likes to have an old fashioned printed guide to walk me through new software and I found the online "Adobe help" didn't tell me where to start. So I headed out to my local bookstore and after reading recommendations on this site looked at the Adobe Photoshop Elements 9/ 9 in 1 for Dummies book and the The Missing Manual Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. They both looked like they were packed with information I purchased the Dummies book due to previous experience with that brand and they had an illustrated example of something I really wanted to do (taking a face from one photo and placing it on another). Once again I started reading my new Dummies book and tried to do some things and again realized that I still had no idea where to start. Not only that, there was so much verbiage that was completely foreign to me and I just became more confused. There is so much you can do. What order do I do things in? And what are these things called and what do I call the thing I want to do?

During this time, I also received and quickly reviewed the Missing Manual version and decided that it wasn't going to help me either.

This "how to" manual is one of the better that I've seen or used. I've been an "Elements" user since version 2.0 and have used many manuals, many of which can be ponderous or confusing. Simply following along with the step by step instructions you'll find it easy to manipulate your photos, correcting lighting problems, adjusting color tones, etc. Plus, if for any reason you get confused or are unable to achieve the desired results you can review the enclosed video tutorials and it will make your understanding clearer.

I found the section on combining images for a composite quite helpful. Additionally, creating striking panoramas is a breeze, just select you photos and sit back and watch the magic happen.

Bottom line, if your looking for your first manual to help guide you through the power and capabilities of Photoshop Elements, this is it.

Finally, an instruction book worth every penny of it's price. It is like a guide dog for understanding and executing PSE9. I gave it five stars and justly so.

This book was just what I was Looking for. Just reading the book is helpful but with the DVD it was great. If I forget I can just bring up the DVD program and it answers all my questions. Have purchased many books on Adobe Elements but none like this one.
Great Book
Thanks Amazon

Without a doubt indispensable in learning Elements and after, as a handy reference. The video training is excellent and produced well. Highly recommended!

Great book and very easy to follow. I had other books on Elements 9 but this one seems to be the easiest one to follow.

I'm just getting started in Photoshop Elements, and so far I've used two of the three books I bought (the others are Kelby and Kloskowski, The Photoshop Elements 9 Book for Digital Photographers and Brundage, Photoshop Elements 9: The Missing Manual). Photoshop Elements 9 Digital Classroom provides the kind of organized roadmap that the other two don't. On the other hand, Kelby and Kloskowski's book is a better reference: it provides detailed instructions on aspects that aren't covered or aren't clear in the Classroom book. I need at least both. I haven't done more than glance at the Missing Manual yet, so can't comment on it.
