I recently bought Photoshop Elements 10 and have been looking around for a couple of weeks for books with tutorials / etc. Yesterday I received Photoshop Elements 10 Book for Digital Photographers I ordered on Amazon. This is an amazing 450 page colorful book and absolutely the best of all: very clear explanations of "to do's" and tricks showing the photo's before, during the change process and after all the changes. I absolutely love this book. Thank you Scott and Matt for this. Very well done.

Just received this book a couple of days ago. Very well written so that even I can understand. Clear examples, and a sense of humor thrown in here and there as well.
(I need lots of examples..:))
I have several of Kelby's books and will likely seek out a few of Kloskowski's now.
Both of these authors did a fantastic job on this. This book will help ANYONE struggling with Photoshop Elements. It is helping me to finally have FUN with my new program.
WELL worth the cost!!
GREAT BOOK~

I've used Elements since the first version, and have purchased "how-to" books for versions 2, 4, 8, and now, 10. My previous favorite was the Maximum Performance book by Mark Galer for ver 8, which really explained things like Camera Raw and introduced me to Layer Masks. This book takes these areas to new levels of understanding for me, and adds much more. I had been interested in the concept of High Dynamic Range for a few years, and tried several methods to add the HDR effect to my photos. I took 3 shots with my camera, and tried layering them together. I tried HDR software to automate the process. I got interesting results, never quite as good as the examples I was trying to match. Then I read the Camera Raw chapter in this book, and found out a cool way to create the HDR effect just by creating layer masks with two different versions of the same photo. The result was the best HDR photo I'd ever processed, and it didn't involve taking 3 or 5 shots with varying EV settings. With tips like this, my photos are looking better than ever, and taking way less time. I love the tone of the book, the chapters are written in a casual style and you can almost imagine Kelby or Kloskowski sitting there, showing you how to do it. The format is also very easy on the eyes: unlike some books that use text that spans each page with photos either above or below the text, this book uses a column style, with text on one side of the page and the corresponding photo right next to it. This is much easier to follow, and the step-by-step explanations of each effect flow quite easily.Read more ›

I ordered this book after reading "Photoshop Elements 10 for Dummies" and still feeling confused. This book shows you exactly how to do the most common tasks in elements, without all the "why." You can even download the pictures they use on in the book so you can follow right along with each technique. Highly recommended!

4 Stars for the beginner and intermediate. However, 3 stars for the advancing Photoshop Elements user. I just received this book yesterday and quickly browsed through each page. First, the positive. If you are new to Photoshop Elements this is a very good book with one exception that I will soon explain. I bought this (almost same book) for Photoshop Elements 8 when I was completely new to the program and it helped out significantly. After quickly browsing this book, in my opinion, this is basically the same book as the one I bought for Photoshop Elements 8 - only with less of the advanced procedures. In their book for Photoshop Elements 8 the authors showed how to add a watermark, display multiple photos on a black frame background and showed the procedures for the reverse color effect. I did not see any of this in the new book! However, what is disappointing to me is that the chapter on special effects does not offer much more than what is offered in their book for Photoshop Elements 8. This is what truly disappoints me about this book. Yes, I did read the book information on Amazon before I bought it and I took a chance (with my own understanding that a lot of the information would probably be quite similar). However, I was really hoping that there would be new material on special effects! The book did not deliver for me in this area. So that is why I am disappointed. However, to end on a positive note. I own three other books (total) authored by Scott Kelby and found them to be very informative. If you are new to Photoshop Elements this book is very good to show you how to do a lot things to improve your photos' appearance before posting them on the Internet. However, if you want "a lot of advanced special techniques" this is not the book for you.Read more ›

I'm a new user of Photoshop Elements and starting with its current (10th) edition and Kelby's work comes highly recommended. But I got as far as the q&a on page xv and realized I bought the wrong book. "We tried not to put things in this book that are already in every other Elements book out there," they say cheerfully. Well, bully for them having fun with the new edition of PSE, but I can toss this one out the window and go buy all those "other Elements books" to figure out what to do. This is not a book for newcomers to the software, and I'm sorry I bought it thinking it was the match for the new version of the software.
