4.0 out of 5 stars Not for Dummies, but a good manual
Unlike other Dummies books I have (Windows XP and Vista for Dummies), this is more like the manual that should have come with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. It's not for people that have never used a photographic program before. It assumes you have some knowledge of digital enhancements. That being said, it's a very good manual and it's in color. It's a good desk reference...

2.0 out of 5 stars Close, but no cigar
Does a very good job of telling you what each function is and does, but falls way short taking you to a logical conclusion. For example, it will tell you exactly how to use the Magic Extractor tool to make a selection, but never shows you what to do with the selection.. Ok for a quick reference, but PSE 7, Classroon in a Book MUCH better product.

It's a good desk reference. It's not meant to be read from cover to cover. After reading the first few chapters, you can use as a reference to get you over the hurtles you don't understand, give you some common sense tips, enlighten you on some things you probably didn't know, and give you some helpful short-cuts. All-in-all, a very useful manual to have, and the DVD is great to get you started even before you start and reading. Two thumbs up from me.

Excellent introduction to Elements 7 and just what I've come to expect from this Dummies series. Just got Elements 7 and wanted/needed to get me going and let's see something now. In one-half hour I had my first photo edited. Not a wiz yet but give me another half-hour. Learned the interface, was able to easily follow the instructions. Good clear English and easy reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Summary - Easy to Read - Helpful in Reviewing Skills, January 12, 2009
This review is from: Photoshop Elements 7 For Dummies (Paperback)
One of the better Dummies' book and a good reference. I found it easy to read what I already knew from other books and training and I learned a few additional tips that I had previously missed from other training books.

Not the ultimate Photoshop Elements 7 book, which I am still waiting to come out; but definitely a good second contendor and a easy read. Easy read is the "Dummies" touch to make it as user friendly as possible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done, January 7, 2009
By
This review is from: Photoshop Elements 7 For Dummies (Paperback)
In the classical Dummies style, covers the topic in an orderly and easy-to-follow fashion. Considering that PS Elements 7 comes with no printed manual, and the limitations of its built-in guided mode, this is an indispensable companion. Maybe due to the many features of Elements 7, the book is quite a wade-thru, and I will probably never make it cover-to-cover, but as a replacement for the manual, it works very nicely.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment, January 14, 2009

Unclear "guide" for PSP Elements 7-can NOT recommend this book.
I later purchased "Teach Yourself Visually" by Mike and Linda Wooldridge
which has MUCH clearer instructions and I do recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Book is a Flop and not on par with other Dummies, December 24, 2008

I enjoy the Dummies series of books. This book has NOT helped. I find myself following the directions and then flipping through the pages to see where that final click takes place. There are too many, 'we will cover that on page #' or go to section __ to find out more about it...I would not buy this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars A total waste of your time and money, April 6, 2009
By
This review is from: Photoshop Elements 7 For Dummies (Paperback)
I have given "Photoshop Elements 7 for Dummies" the absolute benefit of the doubt since I purchased it three months ago. I started to keep a list of real Photoshop Elements 7 functions that are not covered in this book, such as Surface Blur, but decided not to write an Amazon review so discarded those notes. However, today when I wanted information on using the High Pass Filter function for sharpening, and found it nowhere in the book, I felt obligated to write a review to prevent other potential purchasers from wasting their money. I don't know how they can call it Photoshop Elements 7 when many of the significant functions are not even mentioned. And the functions that are mentioned are covered so basically, and with no depth, so as to make the information of very little practical value. This book is a total waste of money. I plan to throw it into the trash rather than donating it to the Public Library because I want the patrons to choose one of the more valuable resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars Photoshop Eleements 7 for Dummies Review, August 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Photoshop Elements 7 For Dummies (Paperback)
I love this book because it speaks on laymens terms and allows you to actually do each task as its explained in the book. A book with the program isn't user friendly. Thank you for publishing this book for "dummies". Dummy I am not, but it sure simply explains all the things that this program can do. Love it!!

2.0 out of 5 stars It was not what I needed but could serve as a reference, July 13, 2009
By
This review is from: Photoshop Elements 7 For Dummies (Paperback)
I agree with one of the other reviewers, ie if this is for dummies I need one for Morons. To be fair this is my first attempt at using a real photo editor so there is much for me to learn as I have discovered by trying to use this book. It does have some good hints and shortcuts and warnings but it is not for the neophite, at least, not this one.
