I found this book to be super informative and extremely easy to navigate. It begins with a great description of Elements for the novice and users of previous editions. Within each chapter there are relevent tips, frequently asked questions, loads of information and plenty of photos. The Table Of Contents is very extensive, as is the index, making it very easy to find sought after information quickly.
It really is "The book that should have been in the box"

This book is what it is - the missing manual. If you are looking for creative uses then you probably want another book (although there are many creative use features in the book). When I think of a manual - it covers all the major parts of the program and gives insights on how to use the program and this book succeeds. I keep this "bible' on my desk as a quick reference to trouble shooting and how to use different tools of this feature laden program.

Even if you watch video tutorials or plow through occasional magazine articles about Photoshop Elements, you may well be missing the boat by not having at your side Barbara Brundage's excellent book. I'm neither a novice nor a pro with PSE, but having the ability to learn and master techniques presented in a straightforward, yet comfortable -- and thorough -- manner has allowed me to actually even sell a couple pictures. Mind you, I don't have a high-end camera, but the book isn't written with just the pros in mind. It's for everyone. It's especially great if you're moving from less sophisticated image-editing programs, or just trying to keep up with the latest techniques in the newest version of Photoshop Elements. Most of my books are digital downloads these days, but not this one. I like to mark them up, stick notes on them, wrinkle the pages, and learn at my own pace. You can't go wrong.Photoshop Elements 9: The Missing Manual

Being a first time user of elements this book is a godsend. However there is so much information that I needed to read it first and now I am using the book as a guide as I try new opertations. My only comment is I wish it was a bit more graphic and has more screenshots. However it is a great book.

This book is great. I had just bought the Photoshop Elements 9 software. As the program didn't come with a manual I bought this book. It is easy to understand and walks you through pretty much everything connected to the program. There are pics you can download from their site to work on if you want. I still haven't made it to the end of the book but I have learned alot from it. I strongly suggest buying this book if you haven't had any photoshop training.

If you are looking for a guide that totally glosses over the usefulness of PSE 9, this is your book. As a user's manual this 622-page book is way too shallow to be the one-and-only reference you'll need as a PSE neophyte. Prepare to immediately spend another $30 on a book that actually explains how to use the PSE 9 tools and methods that you paid for.

I did find some useful (post-publication) information by going out to the authors web site. Obviously, the book was rushed to press BEFORE the author fully learned and understood the new feature-set of PSE 9. The reference material found at the site is referred to as "THE MISSING CD', but the content will require you to be resourceful about capturing the information for offline use. Beware that you may be printing another book at home!

As a basic, basic introduction to PSE 9, the "Missing Manual" will satisfy folks that want a simple excursion through the interface and obvious functionality. However, by printing out and having a printing shop bind the official documentation, you'll have the same (and more!) information in a very concise and cost-effective package.

Do yourself a favor BEFORE you commit to buying this book. Find a store that has a selection of PSE 9 manuals. Thumb through the books and satisfy yourself that "The Missing Manual" is actually the most illuminating choice of the lot.

From O'Reilly comes the latest in the `missing manual' series, "Photoshop Elements 9'. For photographers who like the streamlined lightness that comes the Photoshop Elements program, Barbara Brundage's manual covers all the basics of the ever popular program including more recent developments like photomerge and more. Bought this book sight unseen from Amazon. Reviews and comments about the book sold me. Anyone new to Photoshop elements are probably overwhelmed with all the thing things you can do in this program. This book attempts to cover all of these tools too. Just a bit too much for me.

Another thing I find a bit of a problem, is the size print used, even with reading glasses, it's hard to read, might be the background colors used for some of her highlights in explaining various items in elements.

At the end of the book there is a page about viewing this book on line, which at first sounds good, but it is merely an advertisement for Safari books on line, which you have to subscribe to view this book or others of your choice.

Overall, a good book, but very involved.

Found another book that I prefer, it's short and concise with a DVD explaining the various elements in Elements - "Learn by Video" by Tim Grey & Ted LoCascio, about the same price, but I find it much more helpful in learning Photoshop Elements 9.

Oh by the way, there is not DVD included in the missing manual, just a site linking to other sites to find out more and in some cases spend more money to have access to these other sites.

If I had viewed this book in person, I probably would have saved money and not bought it.
