Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

This book helps you spruce up your Photoshop images using filters--both the program's built-in filters and those available from third-party sources. Using a good combination of screen shots, discussion, and step-by-step instruction, the author helps you create a wide variety of effects. You work through many projects and apply filters as you create paintings, morphed images, 3-D effects, textures, Web backgrounds and buttons, interfaces, frames, text and color effects, and retouched and composite images. For those projects involving third-party filters, the author usually offers alternative methods that involve only Photoshop filters, so you don't have to install new plug-ins if you don't want to. Most of the projects, fortunately, focus on Photoshop's built-in filters and other tools. The companion CD-ROM includes images, as well as demo plug-ins, for working along with the book's projects. --Kathleen Caster

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, March 18, 2000

Although some may find the info redundant, some like me, being lazy would want this book as a kind of reference to common/useful methods. It also describes alternatives to many photoshop plug-ins, such as using Eye Candy Bevel to Photoshop Bevel, which is useful. No other book I know describes plug-ins this way in such detail. Good Buy. If only it comes in full color, my favourite is Photoshop 5 Artistry...must have!~

I really didn't find this book helpful for me. First of all most of the techniques are too general (i knew most of them already). Then it shows too many plug-in filters that I don't have. And It only shows the final image in colour.
