If you use Photoshop with video this is a great book. It is not a broad based Photoshop book but narrowly aimed at the video user. Some nice to knows are left out but this is not intended to be a general Photoshop reference for that you want Adobe Photoshop CS5 Classroom in a Book.Essential to get the best out of Photoshop when used with CS5 for Video.

The fourth updated edition of Photoshop for Video updates this guide for video professionals, maintaining the hands-on applications that teach theory along with specific applications and adding a focus on quick techniques for busy video producers. From working with logos and 3D to using scripts and creating backgrounds, this teaches basic skills and includes a DVD with source video files and stock footage. Color screenshots and examples throughout make this a top pick.

No book can tell you everything about any software product, but Photoshop For Video does provide much useful information for a fairly experienced Photoshop user expanding into the video realm. As a matter of fact, I keep a copy of Photoshop For Video on my desk for quick reference. And while the title includes the line "For Video," you'll find book helpful no matter what your medium. For instance, I used a couple of techniques for some print jobs I was doing for our production house. The author's style is friendly yet authoritative... sort of like having a good friend who enjoys sharing his extensive knowledge of a subject with you - and clearly enjoys doing so! That's a knack that shouldn't be understated... only a teacher who really loves his subject will enjoy it enough to share his enthusiasm, and it is that enthusiasm that will open you up to all the potentials Photoshop has to offer. One thing to keep in mind is that Photoshop For Video also comes from Peachpit Press. Peachpit has been know for publishing the most informative reference books and how-tos for multi-media, software and general technology professionals for ages. They simply can't afford to print second rate or second hand info that will be out dated by the next software update. Heck, I've still got some of their books on early HTML, Photoshop and more dating back 10 years that are just as useful today as when I first bought them. All in all, I'd say Photoshop For Video is not only required reading, it is required OWNING for the serious video professional. You'll want to turn to it time and time again as new projects and opportunities arise. Mastering applications for any technology isn't just about learning the software... it's about learning how to use it effectively and expediently. Photoshop for Video is just the resource to help you do that. |
