Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

London's interesting book begins with a quick overview of Photoshop basics and then leads the reader off into the world of texture creation from the perspective of a real fabric artist. London shows a texture example and walks the reader through the creative steps and reasoning behind the creation. Foster uses the same approach, but the examples are for background patterns, buttons, and other widgets for use on webbed windows. Both offer excellent illustrated explanations of real-world uses for Photoshop.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be prepared to spend time figuring out stuff on your own, June 17, 1998
This review is from: Photoshop Web Magic, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
First of all, the book will take novices like me, to another level. It will show you some really cool shadowing and effects etc... But...., be prepared to really get mad and look through Photoshop's help section to figure out what the author just said and how to do it. I had read one book before this on Photoshop, but when I started reading Jeff's book, I HAD to learn to figure out how to find the info I didn't understand. Saying that, I would recommend this book to anyone that loves to create art and that HAS patience. I completed this book, understanding about 98% of it all. But not with out alot of headaches=/. Though, when I did get done, what a feeling! You WILL get alot of confidence in Photoshop if you do finish the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it's weight in gold!, August 11, 2000
This review is from: Photoshop Web Magic, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
A colleague had found the first volume of this five volume series. After searching local bookstores I searched the web and found copies of volume 2 which I began using right away and very effectively. Clear, precise, step-by-step instructions. I paid less than the cover price for this book but would have gladly paid twice the cover price. I recently took a PhotoShop class (a total of 28 hours) for which I paid $395 ... I developed more design ideas, learned more program functionality and achieved greater technical skill from using 15 PAGES of Jeff Foster's PhotoShop Web Magic #2!

Future volumes from Jeff Foster? I'll be there!

4.0 out of 5 stars A graphics "little black book" for web designers., October 28, 1997
By
neumeyer@wcic.org (West Lafayette, Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Photoshop Web Magic, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
This little book is a graphic goldmine. In this book, there are several examples of animated GIF's, background textures, buttons, and type styles. This book not only has these and many other examples, it has an easy to follow and understand methodology for creating new designs and manipulating existing ones. The CD accompanying this book has several wonderful demo's of existing programs for GIF animations, as well as some filters for Photoshop. This book is useful for the novice web designer, as well as for the more advanced web master. This book could be thought of as "a little black book" of photoshop techniques for web professionals.
