Still a good machine,

This review is from: Photosmart C4795 - Photo Printer - Color - Ink-jet - Print; Copy; Scan - Up To 2 (Office Product)
I purchased the HP Photosmart C4795 All-in-One printer in early in September. A month later, I can say that it was a good purchase. It has served its purpose and has worked fine. Here is my summary of this printer.
Wireless: Grant it, it took a while to set it up and I did have to set up the wireless by entering the Security Code for my Wireless. But after I did that it was a cinch. In fact, (at my home) I have two computers connected to it and it prints both wirelessly and easily!!! (The reviewer who could not connect it to the wireless at the job may need to put in a security code or so before it can recognize the signal.) Cable: As far as the printer cable is concerned, it is written on the box that it is included. I think all printers should come with one!!! Size: It is average size for a flatbed-all-in-one (It has to be at be able to at least scan a regular size sheet of paper (8.5 x 11 inch page) and then some space for the control panel, etc. it would be nice if HP or some other printer could make one that is not so tall, but the scanning and copying function seem to alwys require more space. Print and Copy function: HP printers are always excellent in the print department. The quality of the print is as expected of HP. However, in fast print mode, the machine ejects the paper out as if it's a kickball. (It kind of startled me for a moment!!) but you get used to it. The copies are excellent as well, especially color copies. Just stay aware of the ink supply. Scan function: I agree that it has limited scan capacity. I thought it would be able to scan a document and have it saved as an OCR file that could be edited. However, it just scans and does not convert. I deduced that the scan must be for photos, thus the name Photosmart. Ink: Also, I noticed that the ink cartridges don't last a long time. Fortunately, the cost of the ink is reasonable. Photos: Haven't used it for printing out pictures, yet. All in all, it is still a pretty good basic printer. The wireless function makes it worth it. The price listed here ($279) is not the most accurate or most realistic. It costs around $100 (plus or minus) depending on where it's on sale. If you don't need to scan and convert your documents, HP C4795 is a winner!!

So I just bought this printer today so that I can develop prints for my photography class, and let me tell ya, this printer is awesome! I have a netgear wireless g router from 4 years ago and during setup the very easily found each other. In no time, I was upstairs editing photos and then having them print downstairs. The picture quality is amazing on the photos by the way; I was printing 8.5x11 photos and they all came out very clean and crisp colored. BUT, not everything is great about this printer; after printing around 25 photos this evening I am now totally out of my tri-color ink (mind you this still is within 24 hours of the purchase). Besides the ink (which this printers happens to be incredibly cheap, so its no biggie), this printer is near perfect!

Wireless isn't helpful if you are always disconnected,

I have had this printer for 6 months now - at first it was great. Once I got through the wireless setup, it was great to connect my desktop, laptop, and netbook to this printer. One is on XP, one is on Vista, and one is on Windows 7 - no problems with any. Now after a few months, I am not printing every single day. Every time I want to print, I have to restart the printer because the printer is 'disconnected.' What is the point of a 'wireless' printer if I have to get in front of it before I print EVERY SINGLE TIME. At first I thought it was just a quirk ... now it has become an extreme pain.
Printing use to be easy, you just press the print button and out comes the paper - now it is an 30 minute process to get the printer in a happy state just to print. I hope I am never in a hurry.
