1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, didn't even last a year, lens motor too sensitive, April 18, 2008
By
Sarah (brooklyn, ny) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP Photosmart M627 7MP Digital Camera w/ Dock (Electronics)
Camera broke after 9 months and was unfixable. One day I turned on the camera and got "Lens Error 30" then the camera shut off. I talked to a technician at HP who told me I'd have to spend $110 to replace it (because the warranty had expired after 6 mo.). I asked if there was any way to fix my current camera and he said no. Why would I want another camera that has a easily broken lens motor? That's a total of $300 I suggest people put towards buying a more expensive SLR.

Oddly enough, the first thing the technician said was "Take the batteries and the memory card out for one minute, put them back in, and then see if it works." Of course it didn't. What am I supposed to trick it into not being broken? Maybe I should leave the room, turn off the light, and then run back in and press the power button when the camera least expects it. What a crackerjack operation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad motor in my hp Photosmart R742 7MP, October 10, 2011
This review is from: HP Photosmart M627 7MP Digital Camera w/ Dock (Electronics)
I loved this camera, hp Photosmart R742 7MP, because of all the different options that could be done with the snapshots. Then suddenly, it gave the error message,"Lens Error 30" and the camera shut off, just like another review I just read. Now, it did come back on. However, snapshots were out of focus, since the lens is "stuck", where it was, when the motor quit, completely. And . . . of course, "OUT OF WARRANTY", at this time. I can't afford another camera of this quality, with all the same photo shop options. It just makes me so sad. I was so very proud to be able to own this little jewel. I fully expected an HP to last longer with gentle use, as I was so very careful with it. The body of my camera is still like a brand new camera, but of NO VALUE. I just wish the motors for these cameras lasted longer, or the motor could be replaced for a lesser price. The review that I read(review located at HP PhotoSmart M627 - Digital camera - compact - 7.0 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: SD - with HP Photosmart 6220 Digital Camera Dock (Electronics), advised that these motors could be replaced for $110.00, if you can find someone to replace it. (My mom tried to locate someone to fix her digital camera and they looked at her like she was crazy, and told her she would just need to buy another one.) Well, I just saw where Amazon has new hp Photosmarts for $109.99 and used ones for $41.99.(I would suggest to PURCHASE EXTRA WARRANTY that Amazon offers.) But even with all of that, I don't have an awesome camera anymore and can't afford to purchase another one, for the great Amazon price and for sure, not at the list price of $215.00. And my fear . . ., are they all like this, if I were able to purchase another? Has anyone else had the same problem? WOW! I still can't believe it just quit!
Thanks for any help. Did many more do the same, before I try again? ss
