This book is one of practise, not theory. It contains a varied representation of successful speeches by eminently successful speakers. They furnish, in convenient form, useful material for study and practise.

Alas! How Often Books Like This Are Forgotten.,

This review is from: Phrases for Public Speakers and Paragraphs for Study (Dodo Press) (Paperback)
Kleiser first penned Phrases for Public Speakers and Paragraphs for Study in 1910. It is available now online through Project Gutenberg as a freely downloadable book, or here as something you can actually hold in your hands.
Because this is a book about speaking, he tends to avoid the literary phrases that make some of his other works outdated in places (see my review for Fifteen Thousand Useful Phrases). Time spent with Kleiser is never wasted. The phrases are usually straightforward--"I am not ashamed to acknowledge," "Of course, it will be said that," or "It is exceedingly unlikely that." Yet, they tend to elude us when we actually stand up to speak, because we have not prepared. Better to absorb them at leisure with this book so that you have them ready on the tip of your tongue when the occasion arises. WHO WILL BENEFIT THE MOST FROM THIS? ------------------------------- Anyone who speaks in public will find something of value in here. However, I think it lends itself especially well to those who engage in debate (in the academic or business worlds) and politicians.
