This review is from: Phrygian (Anatolian and Caucasian Studies) (Hardcover)
Igor Diakonov is a scholarly giant in the best Soviet/Russian traditions. Igor Diakonov was a genius who spoke something like 20 or more ancient and modern languages. I found the historical/linguistic connection between the Phrygians and how some of them developed into the nation of the Armenians fascinating. The historical analysis stands to date. The linguistic is dated (he considers the Phrygians part of a Thracophrygian linguistic branch) though he mentions his shortcomings and mentions Claude Brixhe's book which had not yet been printed but was in the works, the book which corrected Diakonov's linguistic errors. This book can be supplemented by Vladimir Orel's "The language of the Phrygians", and of course the impossible to get book by Claude Brixhe in French.
