About the Author
Carol Jahan, M.S., is a physical education specialist and has taught elementary level physical education, grades K-6, her whole career. She developed programs in Santa Ana and Newport Mesa Unified School Districts. She provides inservice training to classrooom teachers who are using this book. She also instructs student teachers in the skills of teaching physical education at California State University, Fullerton. Ms. Jahan was one of four original physical education specialists to be hired to develop physical education programs for elementary level students in the Santa Ana Unified School District in California. From this beginning, her program has developed over the years. The program meets the requirements of a comprehensive program which includes fitness, skills and concepts. It also addresses the whole child, teaching cognitive, motor, and social skills which are included throughout the program and within each lesson. As the program developed, it also met all of the Standards as required by the State of California, which can also be adapted to any state or national standard. Ms. Jahan has been recognized by staff and parents as providing an outstanding program that helps students tremendously. Ms Jahan is an ambassador for elementary level physical education because she knows how important it is for children to stay fit, acquire skills that will keep them active, and to understand what their bodies need to stay healthy throughout life. She knows how important movement activities are for young children to enhance learning abilities in the classroom. She understands the time constraints of the classroom teacher to plan the components of a good program, so she wrote this book for classroom teachers so they can provide a quality physical education program efficiently. Ms. Jahan is committed to ongoing inservices and to help wherever needed, to carry out her mission of advocating for physical education as a necessary component of the elementary school program. She continues to expand her influence through the sales of the book throughout the country, and locally by lecturing or traveling to schools to give inservices. Ms. Jahan provides support as needed via E-mail throughout the country.
