5.0 out of 5 stars A dynamic guide for the physical education professional, July 9, 2010
This review is from: Physical Education for Lifelong Fitness:Physical Best Tchr Gd-2E (Paperback)
This book covers all the bases that teachers need for implementing a health-related physical education curriculum to promote lifelong fitness. It is for use with a K-12 physical education curriculum.

In the simplest terms, it's a teacher's guide that's based on current science and is very up-to-date.

One thing I especially like about the guide is that it gives the teacher cautions about certain exercises. For example, there are resistance training cautions.

A PE teacher certainly does not want to be responsible for allowing a student to injure himself. So you learn how to develop a fitness program that is safe while, at the same time, providing powerful benefits.

The authors say, ". . . You should . . . seek additional training specific to working with children and adolescents in developing muscular strength and endurance in a safe and effective manner."

Here is a look at the contents . . .

Part 1. Foundations of Health-Related Fitness and Physical Activity
Chapter 1. Introduction to Physical Best
Chapter 2. Physical Activity Behavior and Motivation
Chapter 3. Basic Training Principles
Chapter 4. Nutrition

Part II. Components of Health-Related Fitness
Chapter 5. Aerobic Fitness
Chapter 6. Muscular Strength and Endurance
Chapter 7. Flexibility
Chapter 8. Body Composition

Part III. Curriculum and Teaching Methods
Chapter 9. Curriculum Development for Health-Related Physical Fitness Education
Chapter 10. Teaching Styles and Strategies
Chapter 11. Including Everyone

Part IV. Foundations of Assessment in Health-Related Fitness and Physical Activity
Chapter 12. Principles of Assessment
Chapter 13. Assessing Health-Related Physical Fitness
Chapter 14. Assessing Fitness Knowledge, Self-Responsibility, and Attitudes
