This review is from: Physics Can Be Fun (Hardcover)
I got this book as a present from my grandfather when I was 10yrs old and I am 25 yrs old now and I still adore this book. It not only explains the general concepts of physics like Optics, Thermodynamics, Mechanics, Physical states of matter, Astronomy etc but also explores these matters based on their reference in various Classic Sci Fi novels. The author draws heavily from novels from Jules Verne, H G Wells, etc and their reference to the various topics covered in this book. Some of my favorite examples include a review on whether the invisible man in HG Wells famous novel could actually see after he became invisible! or if Archimedes could really have moved the earth had he had been given a liver long enough and place to stand outside the earth!!
This book surely is one of the best books to present to kids as they not only get to learn a great deal about day to day Physics but it also makes them aware of the various classic scientific literatures. |
