This textbook offers students and researchers an overview of the physical aspects of ferromagnetism. It emphasizes the explanations of physical concepts rather than rigorous theoretical treatments that require a more advanced background than is assumed here. The book includes recent developments and techniques in magnetics, and describes magnetic phenomena and engineering applications in magnetism.

4.0 out of 5 stars Key to finishing my doctoral thesis!, December 15, 1999
By
Hector Mireles (Austin, Texas, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Physics of Ferromagnetism (International Series of Monographs on Physics) (Hardcover)
Writing a doctoral thesis on the subject is not easy, especially after seeing books from the past 30 years which seem to present only a patchy display of topics known very well by the author.

Chikazumi seems to tie together so many physical concepts from a standpoint of someone analyzing the entire field. This clear unpresumptious writing style may be a credit to the assistance of the University of Pennsylvania Professor Graham, whose preference appears to be more pragmatic and practical than boasting, (as so many other Physics books) I have been fairly confused by many other older textbooks which cover the same materials, but was enlightened on the first pass of Chikazumi's method of presentation.

This book is a must for anyone wishing to master an overview of the current field of magnetism, an area which has badly needed this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book on Ferromagnetics, June 9, 2000
By
Rasmus Post (Copenhagen, Denmark) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Physics of Ferromagnetism (International Series of Monographs on Physics) (Hardcover)
As an MSEE working as an assistant professor at a university, it is vital to be able to anwser a broad range of questions. These questions beeing your own or your students. This requires that you have ascess to a wide range of text-books. I have found Chikazumi's book very usefull as a reference, AND it is written in the SI-system of units!
