Essential Study Aid, November 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Physics for the Inquiring Mind: The Methods, Nature, and Philosophy of Physical Science (Hardcover)
Perhaps more for those who have already studied physics, although of interest to anyone with an inquiring mind. This book provides an invaluable way of looking at the physical world and forming logical arguments to arrive at the theories we learn in a physics degree. Included is a wonderful look at the ancient Greek studies of astronomy, from measuring the Earth to getting some idea of how far away the sun is. Written before the Feynman Lectures, and in some ways better, since it deals with the fundamentals in a more concrete fashion. Definitely needs a reprint, hungry minds are being starved! And I want my own copy!

I read this book as a child in Poland in the early 70s. It has always had a special place in my heart. It is the best physics book I ever had a pleasure to read (I am not a physisist). Truly inspiring.

You do not need to be a physicist to appreciate this classic!, September 10, 2009
This review is from: Physics for the Inquiring Mind: The Methods, Nature, and Philosophy of Physical Science (Hardcover)
Physics for the Inquiring Mind is an impressively comprehensive and richly illustrated narrative on the evolution of physics, the history of physical theories and experiments, and the pioneers who contributed to the field. A professor made it assigned reading when I was in college back in 1980. I've never forgotten what a thrilling and informative read it was. I am glad there are still copies available, and I recommend it for anyone who is interested in this fascinating subject.

One of the best physics books I read as a kid, May 7, 2011
This review is from: Physics for the Inquiring Mind: The Methods, Nature, and Philosophy of Physical Science (Hardcover)
My husband told me about this book. He found it by accident in a local library in 1983, when he was a 9th grade (freshman, highschool) student, and loved it so much that he read, re-read and re-re-read it.
High-school students today, more often than not, suffer mediocre physics text books. The books are glossy, have lots of color pictures, are sprinkled with side-bars, and sometimes even come with an interactive CD -- but, for all that, miss the spirit of science.
In this glut of mediocrity, Eric Rogers's book, though 50 years old, stands as a shining light.
