5.0 out of 5 stars What is the problem?, May 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Volume II (Hardcover)
This is a great introductory physics text. Many have complained about lack of examples and explanation with respect to the end of the chapter exercises. However, they are not the truth. I worked most of the exercises, and almost all of them were explained in the text. The catch is that this text is meant for physics or engineering majors. Therefore, in order to find some of the answers you have to THINK and solve the problems without the text holding your hand. I think that the idea of thinking to solve problems outweighs copying an equation out of a text.

im taking physics 2 now. took 1 last semester. used serway for both classes. its absolutely horrible. they go over in the text 1/10 of the stuff they ask you questions about at the end of each chapter. there are virtually NO significant worked out problems (they leave that to you to do) and sometimes they leave entire equations out because of printing mistakes. its absolutely horrible...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Half-size" physics textbook, April 1, 2010

This review is from: Physics for Scientists and Engineers, Volume II (Hardcover)
The volume I and volume II versions of the Serway and Beichner physics textbook are great if you have to lug your book around! Both volumes have the helpful appendices in the back, so you don't miss out on anything but the weight!
By the way, although the book is old, we started using the full-size version for the first time this year when we started an AP Physics C class at our school because we had access to used books available for less than $10 each. It has worked out great. Although a little pricier option, I would recommend buying the individual volume I and volume II versions. Buy fewer of the volume II since the Electricity and Magnetism AP course is more difficult, and fewer students will take it.
