5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Giancoli in a definitive test, April 10, 2002
For my physics for physics majors series, my professor is using the Giancoli books. Within those books there are multiple problems that the book does not give you any clue how to solve. The sheer number of these problems eliminates the chance that they are there to help the physics student figure it out for themselves. I was having "fun" with one of the problems in the book, when one of my neighbors stated that he remembered doing a similar problem from his Serway book. He showed me his book, and sure enough, there was a detailed explanation of how to solve that type of problem, and how they derived their equations. The fact that they used no calculus to derive the equation when it was unneccesary in my opinion was a plus. Five stars to a book that can solve the problems in other books!

5.0 out of 5 stars The better of the famous Trio of Physics for, December 11, 2002

Scientists and Engineers textbooks....

This textbook shows the thoery and derivations like Fishbane's series of textbooks and also throws a lot of examples like Gioncolli's series of textbooks.

Unfortunately, you are going to have to pay a lot more... but I think it's worth it.

I also suggest you buy WILSON and BUFFA's COLLEGE PHYSICS textbooks to supplement your study.
