Key experimental observations and examples are included for students who want a better understanding of the body's dynamic process. Clinical relevancy has been enhanced with the addition of shaded boxes highlighting clinical correlations. New pedagogical features include essay questions and a 250-item multiple choice USMLE-type exam.

I am a 2nd year PhD student in physiology, and throughout nearly all of my courses I found this book to be an excellent reference. Very clear and concise, with much more detail than most other basic physiology texts, which often gloss over important details. Very complete content, nice basic figures and helpful bibliographies. I highly recommend this book to anyone studying physiology as your "go-to book" for basic info in just about any specialization, whether you're a med student, grad student or undergrad. Furthermore, the price is [great]; at less than [$] it is [less costly] than most far-inferior textbooks in any scientific discipline.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD BOOK FOR MEDICINAL FIELD, May 9, 1999

This review is from: Physiology, 4e (Hardcover)
I'm in first year in the university. Along with Guyton and Ganong, Berne & Levy is another thorough book suggested for physiology. I have been using it as my first focus throughout my first year study with supplementary references from Guyton and Ganong and I should say it really conveys alot of information. A great book for undergraduate study. The only shortage of the book is that it doesn't include hemostasis and blood physiology.... and well..... it's far more expensive compared to others. Nevertheless, a consice physio text book.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent and clearly written textbook, March 5, 1999

This review is from: Physiology, 4e (Hardcover)
A superb book on mammalian physiology. It integrates from cell to organ physiology whenever is possible avoiding excess of details. All chapters are very clear, but the chapters concerning renal physiology and hidrosaline balance are so clearly written. The illustrations are very good and simple, which definetely help to understand concepts like renal clearance. Gastrointestinal physiology are also updated and easy to understand, especially the topic of gastrointestinal secretions.Endocrine physiology integrates the knowledge at cellular and molecular level to understand the actions of hormones and the regulation of the endocrine system. In summary, a very well organized textbook which can be used in physiology courses for medicine, pharmacy and biochemestry
