2.0 out of 5 stars Caveat: LOADED with errors!, May 1, 2007
This review is from: Physiology, Updated Edition: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access, 5e (Hardcover)
Very disappointing. I understand that no textbook is 'perfect,' but this text has an extraordinary amount of errors. I found 3 errors in a single paragraph. I have dabbled in a few of the chapters on various subjects and there have been errors in every one. I've actually started a list noting the errors and plan to write a chastising letter to the editors. What are they getting paid for if not to EDIT?? It is practically negligent, in my opinion to publish such shoddy work. Some of the errors may be extremely confusing to a student who has never studied physiology before. So be careful! And I would recommend some other book...the other commentators seem to have some good suggestions.

1.0 out of 5 stars A terrible physiology text, March 24, 2007
This review is from: Physiology, Updated Edition: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access, 5e (Hardcover)
I am a first year med student, and this book was recommended as our primary physio text. The problem is, it is terrible. The writing is excessively verbose and poorly descriptive. The topical considerations are poorly chosen and poorly organized. And perhaps most annoying is the atrociousness of the illustrations: they are few, poorly drawn, consist of only three colors. This is a big point, since many of us find visual representations to be an important tool for understanding and remembering physiology concepts.

I have finally given up on this text and chosen to go with the newer edition of a text I used in undergrad. I highly recommend Human Anatomy and Physiology by Marieb, which succeeds where this physio text fails, and even has great clinical correlations, disease states, and anatomy and embryology correlations.Human Anatomy & Physiology (7th Edition) It is more expensive, but worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great textbook, March 13, 2007
This review is from: Physiology, Updated Edition: With STUDENT CONSULT Online Access, 5e (Hardcover)
An excellent general physiology resource for medical students, scientists who are new to physiology and other with a general interest. Save yourself the money and buy the regular version, STUDENT CONSULT is at best a glorified beta of a product that is not useful.
