5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute delight
This book is an absolute delight! My kids (3 + 4) read it again and again! It has introduced a wonderful and endangered animal to them in a very accesible way. The pictures are lovely and the story is touching, truthful and informative. Young kids really relate to the Mommy panda caring for her baby.. Of course it is a bit anthropomorphic, as all good children's books...

3.0 out of 5 stars Adorable, but odd
The book is adorable. I loved the illustrations and the general storyline... but it seems to be aimed at older children. I wish the description would have more accurately described a higher age level before I bought it. I might have still bought it, just when my baby was a bit older.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darling!, February 14, 2005
This review is from: Pi-Shu the Little Panda (Hardcover)
I love pandas *points to nickname* but this book will make all avid fans for the wonderful animals. Beautifully illustrated, it's about a panda cub must move to another region of China because its home is being disturbed by tree-cutters. This is a real problem for pandas. Hunting has been prohibited, but what about hunting of their habitats? This picture book is not meant for facts, but gives one a general idea of the wildlife that inhabits the Himalayan Mountains. You will also see pictures of baby Yaks and monkeys, all coloured and drawn with such talent that you can't keep from staring at them. If I had to sum up this book it one word it would be cutecutecutecutecutecutecuteCUTE!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing New Children's Book, November 2, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Pi-Shu the Little Panda (Hardcover)
Pi-Shu the little panda adores exploring the slippery slopes of Misty Mountain, where he shares a home with his beloved Mother, Fei-Fei. However, one day, as young Pi-Shu is exploring the mountainside, he encounters humans. Humans who are cutting down the forest, and destroying the homes of the many animals around. Realizing that it is no longer safe, Pi-Shu and Fei-Fei set out on a journey to find a new home, where humans do not roam.

I am a huge fan of John Butler, as well as pandas, so I was ecstatic to read PI-SHU THE LITTLE PANDA. Butler's wonderful prose, alongside his gorgeous illustrations make PI-SHU THE LITTLE PANDA an absolute must-have!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for toddler books., January 7, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pi-Shu the Little Panda (Hardcover)
I love books by John Butler (especially "If you seen a kitten"), but this book was more for younger kids (age 6 and up). I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and I thought this book were for toddler. Needless to say, I couldn't even get through 2 pages of this book for my toddlers. I will have to wait until they grow older. Illustration was cute, I'm sure they loved it, but I had a different expectation when I had purchased this book thinking it would be something similar to his other toddler books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated -, July 15, 2010
This review is from: Pi-Shu the Little Panda (Hardcover)
Fabulous illustrations will enchant young readers in this sweet story of a young panda. While the illustrations speak for themselves, the text in this book, unfortunately is not as strong. I am much fonder of John Butler's book Hush, Little Ones, which he wrote a year after this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Panda Book, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Pi-Shu the Little Panda (Hardcover)
This book has a message to its story -- baby panda is born, lives in idyllic bamboo forest with mother, encounters noisy lumberjacks, must leave forest for new, unpolluted home -- but the illustrations are lyrical and lovely and the message so understated that it doesn't feel heavy-handed at all. It was a big hit with my 5 year old.
