This album would be of interest just b/c of having Meters alums on bass & drums, but this organic jazz fusion record recorded in '94 shows a wealth of styles and grooves while maintaining an easy-to-digest array of melodic textures. Only one song features Griffin on anything other than acoustic piano ( he does bust a funky organ lead at one point) & the last track is solo piano. While this is certainly more melodic than any Meters recording, the funk remains & makes this a great uplifting jazz record for morning or after work or whenever one needs to get their groove on!

This record would be worth owning just for the bass & drums being played by Meters alumni. However Mr. Griffin earns the right to be the namesake for this trio & he lays down melodic & funky piano lines throughout. The ensemble stays stripped down and acoustic despite being recorded in '94 and Griffin only strays from the piano to bust an organ solo on one track. Track one, Trippin' Out is a highlight & a great up-beat opener & the solo piano of April Avenue wraps things up nicely. While definitley not a Meters record this one definitley bring the funk in a refined and easy-to-swallow package. highly recommended
