About the Author

Cynthia Marie VanLandingham says, "Children love stories, and they are a great way to teach important lessons and motivate young girls and boys. Most young students starting music lessons have lots of questions. That's why I've written Piano Bears Musical Storybooks - to answer these questions, and to inspire and motivate children in piano! There are over 7 million children in the US currently enrolled in piano lessons. Today's parents recognize the many benefits of piano for kids, but many other activities compete for their children's time. Piano teachers are looking for a fun and loving way to make piano lessons new, exciting and motivating, so they can have the best piano studio! My Piano Bears Musical Storybooks are a unique and special product both parents and piano teachers want and need. As a piano teacher, I've never had a parent, grandparent or student whose heart wasn't touched by these wonderful stories." Cynthia's storybooks use the characters of Little Bear, who is just starting to take piano lessons, his friends and family, and Mrs. Treble Beary, his teacher. In the stories, Little Bear, with the help of his family and friends, learns how to overcome his worries and set positive goals to achieve his musical dream. Cynthia Marie VanLandingham has been teaching piano in Tallahassee, Florida for 20 years. She is an alumna of the Florida State University College of Education, a Member of the American College of Musicians National Guild of Piano Teachers, and President of Tally Piano Enterprises, LLC.

More About the Author

Who is Cynthia VanLandingham? Cynthia is a wife, a mother, a music educator, a writer, a composer, an entrepreneur, a world traveler, and a graduate of Florida State University.

What are Cynthia's Talents? Let those who know her best tell you...

I have known Cynthia VanLandingham for many years, since first meeting her through Florida State University's Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship. She is one of the most creative and ambitious people I know. Not only does she come up with innovative ideas, she turns them into reality, as witnessed by her highly successful series of "Piano Bears Musical Storybooks," which inspire children everywhere to learn and grow, not only musically, but with the bonus of an added sense of well-being. The many testimonials she has received explain her success as a writer and a teacher. (Writer, Janet Litherland)

Cynthia - thank you so much for sharing your music work. It certainly shows how you have taken the fine art of teaching music to a professional level without 'losing touch' with open heartedness. I have my own piano lesson studio here in Phoenix, AZ ('Piano Keys To Music") and you have become a respected role model in how to be creative, handle business, and reach students in a fun and educational way. I enjoy your emails and have been inspired by your business practices to make changes and improvements in my own. Thank you. (Piano Teacher, Valerie Thomas)

Cynthia VanLandingham for over 10 years now has been teaching my Son, Ben, the piano, since he was 4 years old. Cynthia has been consistent and thorough and runs her business like a tight ship. It has been a pleasure dealing with such a professional over the years and my son would not want anyone else teaching him the piano! (Realtor, Tina Goff)

5.0 out of 5 stars We love these books!, December 4, 2011
This review is from: Piano Bears Musical Storybook: Little Bear's Piano Goals (Volume 2) (Paperback)
These books are great for young children who are taking music instruction and are a lot of fun to read with them. My daughter's teacher recommended the books when Julie started taking piano lessons (she was seven). They are based on the story of a young bear and his friends and family. Little Bear is just starting to learn piano and he has the same worries Julie did about what his teacher and lessons will be like, how and why to practice, and what recitals are all about. The stories are very cute, are nicely illustrated, and explain these things in a way that kids can understand. We read them together and laugh about Little Bear and his family and the silly adventures they have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great books for young children learning music, December 4, 2011
This review is from: Piano Bears Musical Storybook: Little Bear's Piano Goals (Volume 2) (Paperback)
I bought these books for my grandson when he started piano instruction. I love reading them with him and they have helped him share our family's love of music (he is the third generation to take piano). The stories teach great lessons that have helped him make a great start on his musical journey, and do so in a fun and not preachy way that kids can relate to.

This book continues the story of Little Bear (the main character), a young bear who comes from a musical family - his mother and grandmother also play piano and his uncle was in a band. In the first book, Little Bear was excited about the idea of learning piano but had to learn to get over his fears about starting his lessons. In this book, with the help of his family, teacher, and neighbors (including Mr. Green Bear, a master gardener), he learns that he needs to be patient with his learning instead of getting frustrated, and he learns to set positive goals for his progress. For example, Mr. Green Bear explains that starting piano lessons is like planting a garden that needs to be tended every day but over time produces wonderful results. The story also has wonderful illustrations that bring the story to life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive - Wow!, October 25, 2008
This review is from: Piano Bears Musical Storybook: Little Bear's Piano Goals (Volume 2) (Paperback)
This is just one of an amazing set of little books. Cynthia Marie VanLandingham's Piano Adventure books are "must haves" for any parent who wants to encourage a child to learn to play the piano. They are beautifully illustrated - a joy to hold and read, and read again and again. Having them also available on DVD and CD-ROM is a plus. The adventures of Little Bear and his teacher, Mrs. Treble Beary, are designed to eliminate stress and make each piano lesson something to look forward to. The books subtly teach patience, as the student learns to set and achieve goals. I was certainly impressed, not only with the insightful material but with its charming presentation!
