Great reference for pianists and especially songwriters. The illustrations show the most popular positions for left hand accompaniment. The guide includes bass clef notation (left hand music staff and notes) as well as fingering for left hand. Includes all 12 major chords as well as their related subordinate chords (24 variations are shown for each chord). Easy to find chords and easy to understand.
I purchased a copy with comb binding (or spiral binding) so I don't have to struggle with this very narrow book on the music stand (see More Buying Choices/Collectible offerings from Amazon). If you can't find a copy with a comb binding, many print shops/copy shops will modify your copy and insert a comb binding (or spiral binding) for around $15 to $20. I have comb bindings inserted in most of my favorite music books. I usually take in around a dozen music books at a time to have the bindings modified, so the price is generally around $4 for each book.

This is a handy little book, the only problem is it gives you, I guess, 'their' version of the best hand positions to play certain chords, but it clashes with some of my other chord charts. 'The chord encyclopedia' would probably be a better choice because it gives you several position to play when possible.

I am an amateur violinist. I wanted to know the notes in the complex chords that sometimes appear in sheet music that I play. The "Piano Chord Dictionary" gave me the information I desired and the price was right.

This is a ready guide to have by your piano. I am just learning so the chords I know are the simplest ones but you can look up and try various chords with your old melodies and "rewrite music" if you have some time. It is a handy reference and appears to be complete.

I would have given it 5 stars, but I think most of the word use 1 for the thumb and end with 5 as the pinky. This book has it backwards which can be confusing if in your later theory studies you see a C chord has : 1(root or C) 3rd (E)and 5th(G).

The idea of a chord dictionary is great.

This book is wonderful, but it only has a partial coverage of all chords, which a dictionary should be, and what I expected to see.

The shape of this book attracted my attention, but proved to be hard to work with, too long and too narrow. They tried to save the buyer some money by using the backs of the covers, thus saving the cost of one full sheet for each book.

I had to refer to other books to know where I stand. It would have been really informative to see at the top of the page a cadence of the basic chords being discussed.

In all, this is a very good book for what it covers.
