This is a great book for adults because it covers piano theory quickly. it uses popular pieces to illustrate the theory. i don't really like the music that much, but it really gets the point across, so i see why these songs were selected. Mr. Neely has done an excellent job presenting valuable material and holding my attention till the end. there is also a CD that comes with the book, which is critical to a student trying to learn without benefit of a teacher to play the songs as they are supposed to be played. I purchased and read this book a year ago, when i first started to learn the piano. Now that i have been playing the piano for a year, i can look back and say i am really glad i used this book, because it gave me the background i needed to get thru my first year and beyond.

I am a professional pianist and organist of 48 years. A young employee of mine wanted to learn to play and loves to read. I read the book - downloaded on Kindle so I could help. This is a well written, simple instruction of the basics. Say, covering the first two or three years that my small town piano teacher attempted to drum into my thick skull. Written so you may go at your own pace, it seems well done. Though you probably won't be playing Mozart's great and complex pieces, you will have a good idea of what your looking at when you see the music, and the beginning skills to further your musical education. You will have the ability to play simple pieces (several are included in the book). The work itself suggest you further your education and gives practical advice for seeking and choosing an instructor.

You don't need sit at your piano to enjoy this book. Just read from cover to cover than you can cope with piano for dummies exercises. Good to know everything about the piano, even if you need something else like for dummies exercises to practice.

Alone this would not be a sufficient alternative to a good teacher and or a basic instruction book but it serves as a valuable resource in learning about the piano and making music on it fun and challenging. The basics are there as are shortcuts and an excellent overview of a fascinating instrument that has inspired the greatest of musicians in several genres. The book is also an effective coaching source offering encouragement against the inherent frustration tied to learning or relearning anything new. This will probably not make you a great piano player but it will make you enjoy being a piano player. Get it and play your song!

Faithful to almost all of the dummies series, this book is easy to read, has a lot of useful content (both theory and practice) and comes with the audio for the exercises (kindle edition) which (I don't know why) is not the case with all kindle editions!!! Strongly recommended as a start off for absolute beginners like me!

This seems to be a very thorough approach to learning about the piano as an instrument as well as how to play it.
