Get your feet wet before you dive in.,
By Mike Monroe (Baltimore, Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Piano: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The RCA Greatest Hits series is a wonderful way to introduce yourself to classical music. For those who aren't quite experts yet but aspire to be, or for those who just want a few CD's rather than hundreds, these albums are perfect. The choices are well done and the music is performed by the best. These piano selections follow a logical musical pattern, starting off relaxed and growing in energy until the end. I thouroughly enjoyed this album and recomend it to anyone who wants to hear some of the best piano music recorded compiled excellently.

Sublime Masterpieces From A Virtuoso of Piano,
By
This review is from: Piano: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
"With a wealth of material like this to explore, it's no surprise that a genius like Rubinstein could bring such delicacy and power to even the simpler works for the piano." ~ Emily King ~Listening to a dozen of classical pieces is much more enjoyable and entertaining when played by a master, Artur Rubinstein, and especially when the repertoire includes my all-time classical favorites like Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor Op. 18" and "Rhapsody On A Theme of Paganini," Mozart's "Piano Concerto No. 21" and Beethoven's "Piano Sonata No. 14 in C Sharp Minor, Op. 27 No. 2." Each beautiful and memorable piece is a reminder that this kind of music can be listened to again and again whenever you feel like it and still have the same degree of appreciation in every single note of each exquisite masterpiece no matter how many times you have already listened to it. In this soul-stirring classical program, Artur Rubinstein brings his wealth of experience in piano and displays a wide range of emotions as he plays each of the twelve pieces with depth and innate expressiveness. He is backed by Boston Symphony Orchestra with conductor Erich Leinsdorf, Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Fritz Reiner, and RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra with Alfred Wallenstein. Rubinstein was one of the best things that ever happened to the world of classical music. He brought brilliance and grace to all his performances in the same manner as he gave justice to the masters' compositions by interpreting them with lucidity and eloquence. His virtuosity, his reputation as one of the most brilliant classical pianists, his interpretative talent, and his majestic touch on the ivories made this recording a work of art by itself. It is the kind of music that lingers in your ears for hours after you've listened to it. It is a musical treasure of a lifetime. I dedicate this review to my late mother on her birth anniversary today. Happy Birthday, dear mother! I vividly remember how you loved Artur Rubinstein's playing and these pieces were your favorites, too. From my ears to yours...happy listening! "Music is a revelation; a revelation loftier than all wisdom and all philosophy." ~ Ludwig Van Beethoven ~
