Truly a Complete Guide! Wonderful!, April 8, 2011
This review is from: The Piano Handbook (A Complete Guide for Mastering Piano, Book With CD) (Hardcover)
I had 7 years of piano lessons as a child. I haven't played in about 35 years. (I am now 48.) This book is as close to perfect as an instruction guide can be. It begins with very basic piano technique and moves into more complicated areas of playing the piano and understanding the music. I am learning things that I never learned in all the years of piano lessons - for example when learning the scales, I now know the "method behind the madness" and can determine a signature key by looking at the music, which makes so much more sense in...well, just about everything that has to do with playing a piece. (When I had piano lessons, I was told to learn this scale and that, with no explanation as to why they were so named.)
For me, this book is learning more about piano while refreshing what I have already learned. However, this book would easily lend itself to learning to play for someone who has never seen a piano. I wish I had bought it when my daughters still lived at home because the book is well-written enough that I could have guided them through lessons. I totally recommend this book!
